Reggie Ball 2.0

And last year, I am willing to bet, most posting here were saying the same about VL vs TW.

B.S.

There is nothing wrong with our kids. Get a coach who understands how to adapt to the talent he has and we will be very good.

How did you guys like the wide reciever reverse from our own 15 yard line?

But, CPJ's only practiced alternative was to line up with two wide recievers and two undersized A backs to help with the pass blocking and throw to one of the wide recievers.

CPJ needs to really work at putting in a passing offense from formations that will create at least a little confusion on the defense.

What a genius!

Reggie ball was just a horrible player. Vad's poor play can be chalked up to a coach who doesn't know how to utilize his talent.

a lot of you guys are saying the same thing about justin that you guys said about vad last year. In fact, i'm sure it's the same set of dumbasses that bashed tevin and called for vad to get more playing time last year.

I think it's at least somewhat rational for someone to say cpj has been sucking at qb development but all this "let's play the 2nd string guys just because the 1st guy sucks" makes absolutely no sense.

We all need to stop hyping up players even before they play the game.

+9999...

Really? What has Vad done to make you think he is a better player than Ball? Are you factoring in that Ball was coached by Pat Nix, who is now the successful head coach at.........nevermind.

And PJ has got to go.
Watching Philly v. Dallas Sunday night, they kept saying that Chip Kelly subtly changed his offense once Foles took over for Vick.

He changed his playcalling to take advantage of the fact that he had a slower QB with a strong arm running his offense and he adjusted accordingly.

What he didn't do was say that the system is everything and beyond critique. He took his offensive philosophy and adapted to the strengths of his players.

Novel idea.

Not saying Vad would be freed up passing the ball, but the stubbornness that the guys have to run the base before they get any other expanded plays is getting old.

Lol, still haven't gotten off Vad's nuts, huh?

I don't know how running backwards in the pocket and either throwing off the back foot or falling over mid-throw for no apparent reason is "talent". Same goes for making terrible option reads or just randomly reversing field and getting hit for a loss. Not to mention throwing the ball at the receiver's feet or 10 feet over his head. If those are "talents", I'd be the most talented football player to ever play the game.

Our O-line is also absolutely shameful. Our QB and O-Line coaches should be out of a job and the players should be running wind sprints until they learn how to actually block.

I think a huge part of the reason Vad throws off his back foot so often is because there is no pocket to step up into. Often he is having to roll back to avoid contact because of guys blowing straight up into his grill. I will withhold a critical critique of his passing talent until I see him behind decent pass protection. As for his ability to run the option, well I just hope there is a eureka moment between now and next season.

Sometimes the OL does actually form a pocket and Vad still backtracks. I know he's trying to avoid the sack but he's not going to be able to outrun both DEs in college like he used to in high school.

What's really weird to me is that when Vad does a 3-step drop, the edges of the OL bend right into where Vad dropped back into. This is one of the reasons why I don't believe running shotgun is going to solve the problem, it'll save Vad from dropping back but the pressure on the edge will still be there. When he sees the pressure from the edge, he needs to step up.

Of course, there have definitely been times where the interior has collapsed as well but it's not as bad in the interior as the edge.

Here's the kicker, the best passing play of the game today was from under center. Vad play actioned the dive, one step to the far side as if he was going to run out to read the pitch then dropped back one step to throw the bomb to Waller.

Vad had no immediate pressure on that play and threw a long strike to a wide open Waller, that's kind of the reason I'll wait before I make a judgement on his passing ability. I can't blame him much for not stepping up when he gets pressure on the edge because he has no reason to be confident the interior is going to hold up.

Oh, I don't think he's a bad passer. I just think he makes (what turns into) poor decisions a lot of times because he panics too early. That's what a lot inexperienced QBs do.

I'm so tired of people bashing on Reggie Ball. He made some horrible decisions in key situations but you all act like he was the most horrible QB ever. I guess you all didn't watch AJ Suggs the season before Reggie.

I would take Reggie Ball over Vad Lee yesterday. Vad Lee sucks at running the option and god forbid he keeps the ball and either stops 2 yards short, falls down, or gains 10 yards only to fumble.

The QB keeper was Reggie's bread and butter. I can remember him diving head first on a play down the sideline to gain the first down and then pop up and get in some D players face and give him the business. Vad Lee would have pulled up 2 yards short of the first down marker.

why? The interior of our line is our strength, and I'd say 7 times out of 10 has made a nice pocket. A 1 yard loss or attempted scramble by stepping up into the pocket is NOT THE END OF THE WORLD. But it apparently is to Vad Lee.

I will be glad when the Vad Lee experiment is over. If he is our starter next season we might not be bowl eligible. Justin Thomas not much of an upgrade. I hope Jordan has something, or maybe Byerly will man up and take the job from the "athletes".

It is not a Vad Lee problem per se'

He is a square peg in a round hole, put him in the Auburn offense and he would be fine, he is simply not a good fit for the high school offense that Coach Stubborn refuses to change to fit his personnel.

When you couple that with our OL who are terrible at pass blocking, it is a recipe for failure.

personally i would love to see the AD tell Paul to change the offense to an Oregon or Auburn offense or feel free to resign and go back to Georgia Southern

So much this. Reggie had ööööing guts and he battled other players. Sure, he wasn't the finest passer, but we have not had one of those since Godsey. The Suggs/Bilbo UGAg game was one of the most awful games I ever experienced - where I saw two QB's look downright frightened of the opposition. They could have scored 70+ on us, but settled for treating us like we were Furman and just toyed with us a bit.

In 2004, during UM's first trip here, our OL was absolutely owned by UM's DL and LB's like I have never seen. Reggie was reduced to running QB keeps because he really didn't even have time to hand the ball off or pass since Miami was in the backfield so quickly. He still fought and battled and never layed down.

Reggie had tons of great plays and played some great games. Had he not come along, we might have really been a dumpster fire, especially with flunkgate going on.

I don't get why our fans hate on Reggie. I always figured it was to get "attaboys" from their UGAg buddies for picking on one of our own. Time for some of you assholes to lay off a bit.

He is not good enough to put in Auburn's offense. What makes you think he would play in the plains?

Reggie beat Auburn, Clemson, Notre Dame among others. Vad beat Duke....

Bottom line, Vad should transfer. He's not happy here, he doesn't get along with CPJ. JT is a better fit for the style we play.
