Replacement

The crowd reaction thing just tells me flat out this dude has absolutely no confidence in what he's doing. That's one of the things I miss about CPJ: even if he was wrong, he was stubborn as öööö about it. That confidence carries over to the players, in my opinion.

Collins will be here through the end of the season. Even if a loss to KSU occurs (possible but not probable), the administration has already demonstrated their commitment to the Collins regime and cost of firing him without a replacement in the wings exceeds their risk appetite.
There will be deliberate movement behind the scenes to find a replacement at the end of the season - if results are the same as last night.

You're doing it wrong.

Keep Collins. Redirect 1/3 of his salary into hiring new offensive and defensive coordinators. That means Thacker and Patenaude are gone.

Also in the "it wasn't fun let's not do this again" camp:
- Kerry Dixon (WR coach)
- Nathan Burton (Co-DC, Safeties)
- Will Glover (Quality Control, Offense)
- They don't have anybody listed as QC, Defense like it's an open to hire position right now ... but if there is somebody there, they should be on this list too

Going by what we've seen on the field so far, you'd have to include Brent Key in the above. But Brent Key was very successful at GT and has coached successfully at other places at a high level. So he has earned a mulligan.

This is a pointless discussion because the buyout is not happening but I’d be 100% for Chadwell.

However if you are a Chadwell, Healy, Etc you don’t take this job. You wait for a better opening.

Agreed and this is the rub. Who wanted the job last time? Collins, a hometown guy with a Tech connection who had desperately wanted the job for years? And Whisenhunt, an alum and NFL guy who is currently unemployed. The up and comers will skip us as a stepping stone.

I mean, maybe you go the assistant route next time, which Tech has been reluctant to do.

Yep. Coaches don’t get mulligans at lower levels any more. You take the Tech job and don’t win and you’re heading back down to G5 or a coordinator job. That’s why you wait for a P5 job that is set up to win early.

Which is why no one wanted the job the last go round.

GT is a great opening post Collins. There is talent here. It needs guidance, discipline, and focus. That can be had in one good spring and off-season.

see 2008-2009 for your example of what a great coach can do with talent.

GT post Paul Johnson was a very difficult challenge for anone who didn’t want to run the option. It wasn’t the world’s most difficult take in the history of man as the talking heads, former football players, and AD want you to believe, but it was difficult and I’m grateful Collins has taken on the task with gusto and positive energy. I just wish he would approach game day prep and team focus the same way.

and the thing is, you don’t have to be a hard ass to provide that. If we bring in someone who is super strict on rules and such post Collins we will likely have an all out revolt on our hands. It needs to be someone who is serious but not an asshole…maybe kinda like Jeff Monken.

It hasn’t been a desirable job the last three times it’s been open. That’s why we got a retread NFL coach and a triple option guy.

Chan wasn’t a retread in 2002. We had plenty of interest back then.
