Saban retiring

22-5 isn’t that impressive? How so? The guy with no HC experience has done nothing but win and recruit at an elite level. Oregon has a very good chance to win the B1G next year (still odd to say).
Oregon is a top program every year with a huge bankroll. And he hasn’t even won his conference. Cristobal won there, so did heflrich at first and belotti. Chip was better than them all. Only coach who didn’t was taggart. So yea.10-2 and win the holiday bowl isn’t mind blowing at oregon

Same here. I'll get fired very soon and then be paid millions to not work.
I'll be their next coach. Give me a salary that nets me 1.5MM/year post tax and retirement savings, make it a 5 year deal, buyout of 15MM/year for when I inevitably piss off their fans, and if they don't fire me at the end of each year I get a 7.5 MM placed in an escrow account that I can access after 5 years or when I am fired.

Were it not for his aversion to the transfer portal (thus far, anyway), you'd have to figure that with his track record of success, 'Bama alum Swinney would be the odds-on favorite :dunno: .

Charles Barkley, a Saban friend, hilariously said on an ESPN radio interview tonight, “The three worst days of my life were when Elvis died, when Michael Jackson died, and when Alabama fired Mike Shula and hired Nick Saban.”

Kiffen has been laying in wait for this opening.I bet they hire him and crush the Ole Miss momentum

The rumblings in Birmingham (got some pretty well connected tide friends) are that Miss Terry (Sabans wife) had some pretty bad health news which led to the sudden decision to retire. Apparently it caught Bama pretty off guard as he was expected to be back next year, hence the interviews earlier this week

It’s pretty obvious the Top 8 candidates are:

1. Dan Lanning - Oregon
2. Lane Kiffin - Ole Miss
3. Kalen DeBoer - UW
4. Steve Sarkisian - Texas
5. Mike Norvell - FSU
6. Kirby Smart - uga
7. Glenn Schuman - uga
8. Dabo Swinney - Clemson

More than likely you can eliminate Sark and DeBoer. Sark has just built Texas into a clone of Bama. DeBoer while a good HC, has zero experience coaching in the South. Smart is a pipe dream wish that he leaves uga for Bama at this point. That said, could Blank contact him? Schuman has always been rumored to Alabama over the last few years. Just don’t think Alabama will take the chance now. Dabo looked like a lock just 2 years ago. But his reluctance to adapt to the new age of CFB has hurt his stock of “going home” to his alma.

That leaves the 3 obvious. Lanning, Kiffin, Norvell. There’s no reason to spend all the buyout $$$ on Lanning. Norvell is a good HC, but wouldn’t move the meter at Bama. That leaves the final answer…..

Lane Kiffin will be the next HC at Alabama. With the resources Bama has over Ole Miss, and his familiarity with Tuscaloosa, this seems like the obvious choice.
So your saying Joey Freshwater is back!

My text exchange with my most rabid, arrogant, Bama fan below. In his defense, he grew up in Alabama as an Alabama fan, but went to Georgia, yet remained an Alabama fan. Pulls for Bama over the mutts.

Hate to hear that, if proves to be the case.

I would put Kirby at 1A and Dabo higher. Bama fans want someone that has won a championship. Both will probably say no, but I would give them a call.

Kiffin better sign a long term contract, because I give him three years max. He will be like that LSU coach that won the NC and was toast a couple of years later.

Had to be something like that right? It seems like he just signed a 5 or 6 year before this past season. A lot can change in a year I suppose.
