Scott Frost at Nebraska

I like the move. They are seeing incremental progress and they like him, so they will give him a chance to figure it out. He understands he hasn't gotten the job done, so he agrees to not financially handcuff them if they have to move on. Maybe he will be their Frank Beamer..

Interesting take, they are seeing so much progress and they like him so much they reduced his salary and cut his buyout in half.

I think the point he was making is when coaches are not performing, you quit throwing money at them. Collins is obviously off track, and no one is knocking on his door. If he believes in himself, drop some salary and use it for better assistants or to buy himself some time. If he performs then he will be in a better position to renegotiate. The dead money article was pointing out all the waste at programs who have idiots in admin positions who straddle their schools with unneeded debt over coaches who did not deserve a reup, were given huge buyouts on the verge of being fired, etc. Some of those guys like Muschamp were renewed with huge buyouts when their fanny was on fire from the hot seat. Stupid. I don't even want to think about Braine, Hewitt. More money doesn't necessarily equate to success. Clawson was probably making squat in the MAC, as was Urban Meyer before they graduated into the Power 5. A book could be written about how GTAA got to operating in the red and riddled with debt.
Who’s knocking on TStan’s door wanting the job?

Obviously as a Nebraska guy he wants to succeed there. Based on some poor decisions prior they're in financial distress and can't really afford to fire him this year. He's pretty much signed up to win or be done after next season. I personally would not have left $7.5M on the table. The real question is what amount of wins saves his job in 2022?... it's a similar conundrum as us. Sometimes continuity pays dividends, as it takes time to establish a program. Only time will tell at both Nebraska and GT...
And he still make a lot more than Collins.

I'm not sure I follow your last points. Are you saying we should be paying new hire coaches at MAC rates?
Also more money doesn't necessarily equate to success, but I'm not sure less money would equate to success better.

The only thing I can figure is that the buyout is derived from the annual salaries, and he reduced his salary for this and future years, thereby lowering his buyout, all with the goal of freeing up money for asst hires. Otherwise I can’t see how this makes any sense.
Maybe they threatened the safety of his family

No. I’m staying outright that nobody wanted PJ’s roster, and that firing Collins before he’s had more that two classes would make no good coach ever want to come here.

It'll be 3.5 classes in December

You mean the coach getting paid 13th highest in the ACC should cut his salary even lower? That's stupid. Maybe the GTAA should raise some more money and pay the assistants better.
Yeah, maybe talk to the AD and cut the length of the contract down so we don’t have to pay him an arm and a leg to get rid of him if need be (which is looking very much likely).

So why’d you go less than 3? 2020, 2021, 2022?
Cause he was talking about in December and giving a 0.5 for the part of the class that does the early signing period. idk how likely more or less than half is, I just left that number of his unchanged. Or if I'm wrong about what he meant by the 0.5 then everythings messed up.

No good coach wants to come here with a barely G6 roster AND a record of losing as of recent AND with a fan base that can barely fill half the stadium
