Scrimmage reports

Heard MJ looked really not great and iced up his shoulder. Seems injury prone.

Heard TaQuon looked really good.

How did the OL look? Cooper look solid?
Fumbles? We used to fumble about 30 times in scrimmages in the olden days of CPJ.

I had my eyes glued to the QB's, so I can't really comment on anything the D did. IMHO TaQuan and Jay Jones looked best. Lucas Johnson and MJ did not have great days. Lucas had some good runs, but neither of them were distributing the ball well. I think TaQuan led two TD drives, Jay and Lucas led 1 each, and MJ none. (#5 & #6 guys also played for a couple of series.)

My overall takeaways... The backup is always better than the starter. The guy who flashes speed is always better than the solid decision maker. And we're gonna be fine whoever's taking snaps for us.

i was staring into the sun this morning as well. Was it Mills who screamed while running up the middle for 15 in the early part of the scrimmage?

From rambling wreck:

Georgia Tech ran 91 plays with the offense scoring five touchdowns and not committing any turnovers. Three of the four quarterbacks vying to replace three-year starter Justin Thomas under center -- junior TaQuon Marshall and redshirt freshmen Lucas Johnson and Jay Jones -- led scoring drives. Junior Matthew Jordan, the front-runner to fill the starting role entering fall camp and the Yellow Jackets' most experienced signal-caller, saw l

The opener in MBS against UT will be a much different environment than a Saturday morning scrimmage at BDS. I tend to think CPJ would want to start the most experienced guy. If the running game can move the chains, MJ would be the best choice. Then, the QB competition could start against Jax St. and UCF.

Not passing...

This narrative needs to die.

Without even looking at the tape, I can tell you that he was 2-7, and one of those completions was an wounded duck that he threw and Stewart caught, while MJ was rolling to his left.

Of his 5 incompletions, I know one was an overthrow to Marshall that would have been a huge gain, if not a TD. The other 4 were likely results of 3 freshmen OL starting that day, or heavy pressure from VPI, or a combination thereof.

I agree with a lot of this. Quan and Jay Jones separated themselves from MJ and Lucas Johnson by some margin. Ta'quan threw one check down to JJ Green in the flat *after going through his progressions*. I found that impressive. Don't remember the last time I saw our QB do that (Godsey?).

Jerry Howard is very capable and Benson is banged up. So JH likely solidified his spot right behind Mills.
