Scrimmage reports

Don't forget how excited we were when Taylor Bennett broke records in the bowl game. Then we learned why Reggie was a 4-year starter. Can't make many conclusions from such a limited sample.

MJ has a more than adequate arm, but when mechanics break down he throws ducks. Kind of like Tevin, but MJs arm talent is better, although Tevin was actually quite good at consistency in his mechanics. Things got ugly not because of him but because he was forced to throw on the run a lot, and his arm just couldn't do it. Nesbitt was the reverse. Supreme arm talent no matter what his mechanics were, but if the mechanics were off his accuracy was crap. Unfortunately, he didn't have anything close to Tevin's consistency when given time.

The reason why JT5 and Nesbitt were the greatest quarterbacks of CPJ era is because they both figured out a way to go forward when the line could hold no better than French troops defending Paris from Germany. Nesbitt just powered through and a loss of 1 or 2 resulted in a gain of at least 3 and Justin just ran around everyone because of his speed. We need a quarterback who can do either one of those. Also someone who can hit passes to keep the opponents defense wondering if we're gonna hit that 50 yard pass down the field. We need a quarterback who can turn the game alone with his skills alone. That's what makes the difference between a 9-3 or 10-2 team and a 7-5 or 6-6 team. We saw that MJ was able to beat VT in Blacksburg and I'm grateful for that. But if any of these other guys will give us that edge, I'd rather start them against Tennessee. And if CPJ decides MJ is our best option right now I guess we don't have anyone better and it is what it is.

This Tennessee poster has you on tilt bro? I heard we're already practicing the offense with a real football. We're usually running around without a ball to replicate how other teams are practicing for us. Get your head on str8 man.

"Jerry Howard is a load"

PJ playing mental games with Butch. Each of our QBs represents different schemes and game plans. Helped us beat VT. They were completely not ready for the midline. Butch's head may explode.

uTenn already lost a starting OT from injury its been reported last wk.
Looking at their chatlines /etc it looks like the emphasis is on RUN-ramming it down out throats.Could work ,has before.

Dammit. Our defense never gets to practice against a run-it-down-their-throats offense. We are so screwed.

Only time I remember that working was UGAG 2009, and we still should have win that game.

Butch'll get pass happy and the next thing you know, the Austin twins start the year with matching INTs.

Grave Digger! (26) He BIG!

Has MJ ever pitched the ball? I heard CPJ mention he wouldve pitched it had he had a pitch key (i.e. the keeper was the correct read), but I recall rarely seeing MJ pitch the ball, even in the big win against VT. This is the one thing that concerns me about MJ in the long run, and one of my dislikes about Tevin. Tevin also ran the option too slowly, IMO, but MJ does seem to run it faster.

Getting the ball to the perimeter is one of my concerns with MJ for sure. I'm not saying he can't, and I certainly don't have the info to know if the other guys can do it effectively, but that's been such a vital part of our offense when we're successful.

I think this perimeter thing is probably more DC's choice than anything else. MJ doesn't just get to decide that this play is a pitch play and the AB will be the correct read, the defense dictates that. If you're a DC on the opposing sideline, who do you take out of the play, MJ or Clinton Lynch?

It's a poisonous choice, IMO, but I think I'm going to try to keep it out of Lynch's hands as much as possible if I have to choose between the two.

Suck it, hokies.

Suck it, hokies.

I had forgotten about the fumble on the first snap of the 2nd half, then that ridiculous no call push-off on the hokie TD. Not that this game was ever much in doubt, but we could have nailed the door shut with a long TD drive there.
