Here's my thoughts from the game:
1) I'm trying to not get too upset about a 14 pt road ACC win where we were 7 pt underdogs, but that was sloppy and we have to get better about closing games out by increasing the margin coming out of the half.
2) I don't think I've ever seen a game so affected by the refs. That was egregiously one sided officiating and about half the penalties against us were BS calls. Nearly every spot of the ball was 1 yd to Wake's advantage. We were lining up effectively 1st and 13 every set of downs because of these bastards.
3) Thacker basically did to Wake what Clemson used to do to CPJ. Crash the mesh and recognize that, by doing so, you're still being disruptive enough to the rest of the offense. Wake's adjustment was to leave their tackles on an island with our DEs. Ha!!!
4) That interception from #10 for redemption was the best interception I've seen from our defense in a long time. I thought he played a hell of a game, staying in his guy's pocket, but the refs gifted their WR the match up by calling DPI, but not OPI.
5) Our OL was actually getting decent push (2-3 yds) on run plays, it was just a sloppy mess playside and we weren't sealing out the backside so holes would collapse.
6) What disease did our ball carriers catch this week where they went back to dancing around rather than getting upfield? That killed several drives for us. A bunch of Dollar Tree Barry Sanders out there sprinting to the point of contact then stopping to dance rather than just hit the lane and go. Gave time for help to arrive and without momentum, gained 0 yds after contact vs 2-3 yds positive after contact lean and maybe a few broken arm tackles for bigger gains if we didn't dance. Drives me insane.
7) I still think this team collectively lacks killer instinct and is prone to choking. We sure tried, Wake just wasn't good enough to take the opportunity.
