Solid Win!

-30 to -40 off of that for Wake getting some room and running out the clock on the first half.
More like 80. We were in deep prevent at the end of the half and on their last trash time possession. They had about 30 rush yards right before half and 50 at the end of the game.

I forgot about the Endo of game one

My estimation of Clawson as a good offensive coach really took a step or 20 back Saturday.
His QB is getting pressured constantly and I don't recall them doing much to help him out - no backs or tight ends kept in to block, no screen plays, and Griffis stood there like he was getting his portrait done instead of throwing the ball away. It's as if no one was in his ear on the sidelines on what to do with our pressure. His lack of experience was telling.
I'm glad it turned out that way and that leads to this question.
Did Thacker outcoach Clawson?

100% agree. They didn't adjust their blocking schemes at all in the second half, didn't roll the QB out, didn't run any jet sweeps or anything else of that sort that would've kept our defense from pinning their ears back. Just silly.

I kept watching and thought, isn't Clawson supposed to be pretty smart? Because this is pretty dumb. And thanks for being dumb. Surely they're going to do something different. Nope. Not once.
Thanks Dave!

Didn't he throw a pick on a roll out or did I just imagine it? Plus, we had a LB spy back there moving with the QB. If he bootlegs, that LB was getting upfield to him fast

We are not close to the “not win good enough” stage.

This.

After the last 4 or 5 years, it is hard for me to be too critical of a road conference win by 2 TDs against a decent/good team. Of course, there are things to work on. It was good to see Thacker (!) make adjustments and have a good gameplan.

Let's keep it going and take care of Bowling Green.

Play calling for much of the second half was perplexing. Until the last possession that put it away.
They kept running the slow mesh while we were tackling the QB and RB at the same time during the mesh.

He was blessed with an awesome QB the last 3 years who could flat out execute...that guy is now probably going to lead ND to a potential playoff berth. A great QB can be the missing link to many things, including coaching dynasties, Nattys, etc. Just ask Saban and Dabo.

For those not knowing how to feel about that win ... we won by two scores even though we played sloppy on the road and the refs were making poor calls that favored our opponent. How does that not make you feel optimistic? This is the most optimistic I've been about our FB program since CPJ. Never in the Waffle House era did I feel this good about our team.

Are we world beaters? No ... but was anyone actually expecting us to be world beaters in a rebuilding year?

Yes, the L'ville loss is super painful looking back. If Birr was our PK, we win that game.

The truth is that wehaven't lost to a mediocre or bad team yet. Time will tell if my optimism is too soon, but I feel really good about this squad. We're getting better each game.

QB has the ball in his hands every single offensive snap. That is the one player that will make the difference between mediocre and good, and between good and very good. That was the difference for CGO, CCG and CPJ. It will be the difference for CBK. It is why CCG struggled to sustain very good play, IMPO. Nothing could have helped TFG.

I think we have a couple if guys who can make that difference now.

Our play calling was perplexing until the last series.

Agreed. That slow mesh offense they ran was just awful to watch. You have a mass of bodies with theQB and RB running literally together holding the ball as they wait for an opening in the line or a breakdown in the DL. Flat out ugly. The antithesis to a fast pace 5 wide offense.

Did anyone notice that the camera crew showed him constantly between practically every play? We were so sick of looking at his dumb mouth breather face by the end
