That’s a complicated question. The reason for that is I think that the O line recruiting deteriorated over time and that our current situation is as bad as it gets. I think that Paul would have had big big problems running his O with the current line with marginally better results than what we are getting now. The problem is that we would have kept sliding down the hill with bad recruiting in a self fulfilling prophecy. So I think has to take a step back to take two steps forward on this transition.

Pitt's DL was awfully good. Just focusing on DL play every so often, #92 for Pitt just threw our OL aside on one play and made a very athletic play to stop Mason for no gain.

I mean, upgrading recruiting and outcoaching people on one side of the ball is still an upgrade over where we were I'd say, with the one down part being outcoaching on defense can often be less impactful than outcoaching on offense. Sure we'd want the outcoaching to be universal, but we'd also want a class full of 5 stars too.

It'll be a step up overall for the team even if the offense is average while the defense is great. Certainly wasn't the reverse before.

Our last OC did it by employing a cut blocking scheme that made it difficult for us to recruit offensive and defensive linemen and made it harder for the defense to practice against a passing offense. Our players have literally said as much in recent months.

I get your frustration and your question might someday be valid. But trying to form an opinion regarding his capabilities at this point, given the talent he's working with, is like forecasting who won the Presidency with .05% of the votes tallied in a single state. Just too soon to judge the man at this point.

That all makes sense. Like I said before, I haven't formed a definitive opinion and agree that we'll need 2 years before we can do that. But I'm not optimistic about the offense at this point.

It will be too soon next year too. 2021 is when the 7 OL commits in this class will have a year under their belts. Judge him then if not 2022. That's why CGC got a low-cost, 7-year contract.

Remember CPJ and Dabo started at about the same time, and everyone thought Dabo was a clown. No one's laughing at him now a dozen years later. Be in this for the long haul.

But they replaced Dabo’s coordinators. We don’t need to wait until 2021 or 2022 to judge Pat as an OC. This year is a generationally bad offense. Some of that is year 1 in a new O, some of it is guys being a bad fit for the new offense. I will give him 2 years, but next year better be an offense that produces towards the bottom of P5 teams and not near the bottom of the NCAA.

Well the first incompletion was a perfectly thrown drop, so the mojo obviously wasn't trending posilutely against Pitt.

Good points. The missed opportunity/fumble at the goal line at that point in the game changed the entire momentum of the game. That was the 10 point swing and eventual difference in the game. The margin for error that this team has to work with is very slim. It came down to ball protection, and we didn't do it at the goal line. Not saying that it cost us the game, but it went a long way toward influencing the outcome. A tie game at that point could have changed everything and then we'd not have to bitch and moan about how inept our offense is.

Savor our success and some could look forward to sharing a Zima with Cavman next weekend.

Why couldn't CGC just fire CDP and allow play calling to go to CBK???
