Stay Classy dwags

Agreed. I have two tickets given to me right outside of the student section. I was considering going, but think I'm going to try and get them sold in order to by some near the TECH section. I have an extremely short temper when it comes to ignorance and would prefer not to be barked at.

Modern uga students are kind of dorks. It might be pretty tame over there.

What you say is pretty true and I've been over there a lot the past 10 years. I'd say they have more nerds over there now than we do, but some of you would be insulted.

Its the trailer-park-come-to-Athens crowd you have to careful of. Example, up and down Baxter street. Most of the time they don't have tickets to the game. The best way to diffuse them is to ask them what year they graduated (from UGA).

Yeah, too bad UGA students/alumni are probably pretty normal, hell, most of us were probably friends with them in high school and still are. But the trash of the state creates this environment. Oh well, I'm sure their life sucks anyway.

I've only been to 1 Tech-UGA game, and it was at BDS in 2011. I don't recall any kind of negative experience with any UGA fans. .

You've been to 1 singl COFH game ?!?! Clearly not a legit GT fan, I see.

Come back when you've been to MULTIPLE COFH games at the Cesspool.

Most UGAG people are OK...on their own.

Put them together in the Cesspool on a Fall Saturday......and the MAJORITY...start acting like trailer-park trash.

I've only been to one: 2008. Got soda thrown on me twice (by one of the few uga fans in the visitor's section).

A buddy of mine got beat up in a bar in athens. Bumped into a guy by accident and several of his fraternity members started hitting him. Ended up with a few grand in dental bills, and a bar owner who said the cameras were down for maintenance that night.

Best experience by far was clemson. I went last year and the fans were super nice. Stood on the hill, and was generally left alone. Little bit of playful ribbing every time they scored (which was frequent), but they were nice about it. I think they felt bad by the end.

It's always the women that start öööö. I've been sucker punched around 3 times in my life, and two of them were UGA female fans who could dish it out but couldn't take it. They start trouble and escalate to violence without regard, because they know that 9/10 men won't hit them back.
Yeah, they would get real close and even put their hands on me at one point. I just laughed at their stupidity and just made sure to keep my back turned. When they tried to get their guy friend into it is when I started to get serious, but the doggie wanted no part of that.

This is also true. I once had a guy on dawgpost tell me "shut up and give me your lunch money nerd!"

I responded saying I had already eaten, but he might try this: and I gave a link to another thread on dawgpost where people were sharing their fan art and fanfiction of the God of War video games series.

Promptly banned.

I've had some interesting experiences with dwag fans over the years.

After the 1997 loss in Atlanta, a UGA fan ran by, grabbed my hat off my head on Spring Street. We fought and I got my ass kicked a little. I blame the six pack of beer I sneaked into Bobby Dodd.

After the 2000 victory in Athens, mutual "friends" back at the tailgate tried to fight us. Nothing happened, but the several branches of hedges on our heads is what probably got them riled up.

During the 2001 game in Atlanta, someone let a UGA fan into the student section. It didn't end so well for him. He wanted a fight and got one. Not from me, just other fellow students. Us nerds tend to not put up with their sh!t.

Before the 2002 shellacking we received, I had multiple mouth breathers bark in my face, including one who said, "Go back to fa ggot Buckhead, you f'n f ag." I let this one slide, I had some extra curriculars in my pocket that day. Definitely didn't want any police involved.

During the 2004 game, my girlfriend at the time (UGA alum) and I were kicked out of the stadium five minutes into the game. We honestly didn't do anything, just someone essentially lied and had the police escort us out. What can you do? That day, too, consistently had UGA trailer fans bark in my face.

The 2006 game in Athens was pretty tame, had better seats in the UGA alumni section.

The 2007 game in Atlanta I witnessed a very drunk UGA fan flipping off everyone in the waning minutes of the game. I finally told him to knock it off, and he did a classic bully flinch to me, so I whooped his ass. I explained this to APD and they agreed with my actions. My buddy, who's an attorney, actually ran up to the police and explained he was my council. I'm not sure if that helped any, I don't think having an attorney with you at all times looks that good.

2012 game in Athens, I had a UGA fan push me from behind while he running by at a full sprint. All I was doing was waiting in a porta-potty line. What's great was there was cop right there driving by, a lady cop, so she chased him down in her cruiser then completely emasculated him on the sidewalk. Now that was gold!

My wife went to UGA, so I'm usually with other UGA fans while up there. We all get along great, but none of my UGA friends are trailer trash. The real problem with Athens and their fan base are the mouth breathers who manage to get away from their fat wives and basically make asses of themselves. Trust me, the UGA fans I know can't stand them either. We also go to bars in downtown where the townies mostly hang out.

Jacketfan, sounds like living in Athens is getting to your head. I have definitely heard of stories like reddit op's. Athens townies might be nicer people but uga fans are ööööing horrible, we all know that. It's still a ööööing cesspool. You need to get your ööööööö mind rite.

Whatever. You had a great time in Athens and even said you wanted to come back. Stop being a dork. Half of the öööö in this thread is most likely caused by two people being idiots and not just one. I know too many of you to think otherwise. This is my third time living in Athens - every time I've never had a problem wearing my Tech shirt, hat or whatever and never felt the need to take any öööö off a dwag.

And to echo something Architorture noted, I'm sure opposing fans have had similarly ööööty experiences with our fan base. For example, I recall a certain Clemson game where a ST'ers behavior towards some Clemson fans got him thrown out of the game. My behavior nearly netted me the same result. The fact is, enough liquor can make anyone an asshole, and that generally happens at night games when you are an the opposing team's stadium. Stop taking your five year olds and women to away games or grow a pair. I imagine the noon game in two weeks will be much more subdued because of the lack of time to get liquored up.

I'm guessing all of you guys that have coke dumped on you, get in fights, get barked at incessantly, etc. are probably all obnoxious, yourselves, and were probably giving as good as you got.

I'm not saying I haven't seen it. Just saying that it was almost always a two-way street, including anything I've ever been involved in.

Your guess would be wrong.

I believe the story. Your experience in Athens is controlled by where your seats are and how you get back to your car. If you sit near alumni and walk near alumni tailgates to leave, you'll generally be ok. There are areas of that stadium though that must be block seating for trailer parks and Honey Boo Boo's relatives. Sit there or wander through their tailgate on the way back and you'd better be ready.

This. You encounter hundreds, if not thousands, of uga fans on a trip to athens. Most of the bad stories involve only a few bad eggs. The best way to avoid altercations is good defense, including:

Avoiding the rowdy bars at night. It sucks, but you are much more likely to get into a fight at one of the college bars, as opposed to if you make reservations at last resort and enjoy a nice dinner the night before.

If you do hit the rowdy bars at night, wear neutral clothes. I'd also recommend the less sport bars, like nowhere, or going to see music (like at 40 watt). The giant bars on the main drag are what you want to avoid like the plague.

Afternoon games you are probably fine.

For night games, and it sounds weird, I would recommend avoiding the tailgating scene altogether. The closer to gametime you show up to the stadium, the lesser chance to find one of the bad eggs.

Also avoid going nuts unless in a heavy GT section. Even something as simple as standing up to clap a big play will get ice, peanuts, ketchup, etc. hurled in your direction.

The advice about grad schools is great if you do choose to hang out. I'd recommend the areas around the law school. Most uga lawyers aren't going to risk getting disbarred to fight a tech fan - and most of them aren't terrible people anyways.

Same drill after the game - more chill bars off the beaten path, not the bars the drunkos can get to by stumbling out of the stadium.

I like that people are giving their experiences and a couple of fans are calling bullshit or blaming the Tech fans.
If your advice is not to bring your wife or kids, you know they are right. Would you warn someone to not bring them to Clemson or VT? Nope, because the worst that will happen there is trash talk. Georgia has a lot of classy fans/alumni. They also have a large contingent of white trash assholes who go way beyond normal.
öööö UGay

when i came to athens it wasn't football season, i didn't have tech gear on and i was on crutches. yet one douchebag still made fun of me for hobbling all over the bar. i don't understand your defense of uga fans on gameday. you should stop being a nadlicker. As far as architorture, at least he has an excuse. what's yours?

LOL. "It's okay to visit Athens for a game as long as you have a police escort right up to the gate, you wear red and root for the Dawgs."

I went a few years ago. We were early for a 3:30 game and walked around campus from two directions from the Tech tailgate. It is much more than a few bad eggs, I can assure you of that. I honestly don't understand why we play them anymore considering how silly the situation is.

Ten years ago I dated a UGA grad for a short time. She came to the Tech-UGA game in Atlanta and I walked her around campus. She really enjoyed herself except the few UGA enclaves we bumped into. "Do UGA fans act like that all the time?" she asked. She was appalled (and still went on to marry a UGA season ticket holder).

I'm not defending UGAg fans, I'm calling out pussies who bitch about catching öööö when they visit the opposing team's stadium/town and noting that most of that kind of thing comes from two people acting like assholes, not one.

You're better than this.

No one should ever be sackless enough not to watch us in Athens. If you can't ignore jaw-jacking from a gagger content enough to let you make the first move, almost 100% of the time you will be part of an incident.

öööö does happen, and you don't have to ask for it. I've seen it, but been lucky enough not to be a victim of it. I go downtown in full Tech gear, because I am a man, and have managed to avoid fights. I do recognize that luck has been a factor though.

i think bottles being thrown at them or being spat on is catching öööö.

i don't care, i'm all for intense rivalries, i'm for istanbul where last time i went to a game, inadvertantly ended up participating in a riot with people throwing burning bottles at cop cars.

but this is America, where God pays attention. except to Athens on gameday.

i'm torn between going with you or watching it at corndog's.
