Stop playing UGA

You miss the point. When in a war where you are getting clobbered, it is best to step back, regroup and find a way to become a better fighting machine.
Tech needs fans, by eliminating UGA as an opponent, you will pick up fans and maybe one day actually pick up supportive media and politicians. See discussion on UNC, NCS and Cal, UCLA and how the state of Virginia protected VPI. We are the only school in the country where the local media and politicians is not supportive. We have to change that for example.

Games like 1999, 2000, 2008, 2014, and 2016 are the reasons why the game should always be played. Clean Old Fashion Hate is a big deal.

1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016......

I hate our fans. If the ball would have bounced a few different directions in so many games this series would look completely different over the last 25 years. Take our last four meetings out and chances are you are in for a highly competitive game.

Just STFU already about being competitive without playing your biggest rival. Shut up. Just say you'd rather play FCS football. It's the dumbest öööö ever and the height of emotional little brother insecurity.

Disagree. Perception wise, it would look beyond bad for us to discontinue this game. There was a day and age not too long ago where we recruited well enough to play them tight. We need to get back to that and it starts with the HC.
Well, losing by a combined score of 97-7 under the current head coach hasn't exactly helped "perception wise". That looks worse than the "beyond bad" of not playing them every year. Put them on a rotation with Florida, Tennessee, and Auburn to appease all those pining for the former SEC days.

97-7 is pure embarrassment.

The problem with playing UGA is that they don't consider this a real rivalry and the results over the last 40+ years generally prove this out. It's a joke that GT fans get riled up over our biggest rivalry whereas UGA fans are like "whatever". Typical little annoying brother syndrome. They don't take us seriously and we shouldn't be taken seriously given the results. This is the problem. You can't have one sided rivalries.

We've won THREE times since 2000!! We haven't won at BDS this century!

This is what this thread reads like to me: “My wife cuckolds me with other men in our bed all the time but I decided to just let it go on since there’s nothing I can do to stop it.”

hopefully paying players will cause the college game to implode which will remove $$$ players from actually going to college. In this scenario only the players that ACTUALLY want a college education would remain. This would take us back to the 1950's where GT was a force.

I don't see that scenario happening. Nobody is watching a bunch of regular SA's play football. There is too much $ invested. College football won't be allowed to implode. Split into separate factions? Maybe, but again, nobody is gonna watch, so we would be a force in something untelevised.

the courts are not going to allow colleges make money while players don't and risk their health. I imagine a 50/50 rev split in the near future. Some colleges will not participate in that scenario.

And they will end up in FCS level or likely drop football altogether.

Well, that's why I said it starts with coaching. Collins has been an abject disaster. Going back to the O'Leary & Gailey days, we recruited well enough and beat them under O'Leary, then played them close under Gailey. We can get back to those days but we gotta get a coach who isn't a cheerleader/hype man with bad assistant hires/loyalty.

This is true. My mom's side of the family are Dwag alums, granted they're all judges and or attorney's and have had very nice livings. But they do not care about Tech, at all. When I get hyped for COFH and even mention them, they now just expect a blowout win and say thanks for the scrimmage. Many in their camp have said to drop Tech as well as they see no value in playing us aside from the expected win. We have to change those beliefs......Tall order though.

Players have been getting paid for 50+ years. Not sure what makes the current P5 landscape any different? The only real difference is players can negotiate their own NIL deals. Most of the reported triple digit NIL deals are bogus anyway. And why shouldn’t players make money? I mean, considering Saban, Fisher, Smart, etc are making $9 million+ a year. It doesn’t stop there. H.S. football has been paying for players via housing, etc forever as well.

If you feel this way about CFB, you can always watch the Ivy League, etc. I guarantee you will be bored of the product.

the problem is the more $$$ involved the less collegiate the game. If you read

https://www.nytimes.com/2022/08/07/sports/ncaafootball/alabama-football-cte.html

It is clear that the current view is that college players are risking a potential harm. Colleges are making 100's of millions $$$'s off these 18-22 y/o "student athletes." NIL money will not be enough. Judges are holding that players are employees of the universities.

All of this is heading toward a "collective" bargaining agreement. It is NOT IF....but when. Even the health of some of the former players that post on stingtalk have been documented on this board.

The NFL has a body to protect the players and this will have to happen in college. The colleges are the tobacco companies and the players are the smokers. You can delay the process but ultimately this will be litigated and the game will change significantly.

The last 3 seasons have dropped Tech into a severe non relative football position. We are not looked at as a potential conference addition to the BIG as are Miami, Clemson, FSU , unfortunately. The only good thing Tech has right now is for the ACC to remain solid and not lose other members until we can recruit better, get better coaching win games and get noticed as a force in football. Otherwise it's all but over for Tech football.

I don't think GT should ever be the one to end the series, but current uga is way different than what O'Leary and Gailey dealt with. The current situation with uga has very little to do with Collins.

Oh I agree, but we can't control what the Dwags do. We can control what we do and hiring a better coach who will turn the ship around to at least make us competitive with them and other top tier teams is step 1. I refuse to accept we can't close the gap against them.

Is the school going to do their part too? Meaning actually invest in the football program with the $$ and resources needed to even close the gap a little between Clemson, UGA, etc. GT’s issues are not just on Collins & the old staff. Alabama, Clemson, UGA have 70+ on the football staffs.
