Stop playing UGA

Baby steps. We need to go bowling this season. ugag will always be tough but let's crawl before we walk. Let's see how we do with these new coaching hires. I'm thinking we'll be better than some people think.

I would be in favor of moving the game to earlier in the year, like early October. I feel like the season should end on games that have direct implication for championship games.
Conference rivals, sure, play the last week of the year. So maybe trade our week with U(sic)Ga with Florida.

5 is doable, maybe 6 with a good bounce of the ball (this is based on well above average health). Really expecting the new coaches to produce an organized looking team vs the past 3 seasons of keystone cops look. They will still be often overmatched, but more competitive. This would have been the case too the last 3 seasons with the new staff.....less dancing girls and more coaching.

Cabrera >>> Collins OR his replacement, to GTs football future.

I don't get the impression that Cabrera knows that the school has athletics nor does he care much. Maybe GT can get an upgrade over TDope and the new AD can hit a homerun with a hire.

98, nor does he care much, is all you need to know. Translation......$.

GT has only beaten UGA 17 times in the last 60 years ,this is not a rivalry anymore. UGA has won the last 4 in a row (it would be 5 but COVID saved a loss) and unless something miraculous happens that streak doesn't appear to be ending any time soon. I wouldn't be surprised if, after winning 9 in a row to top the "drought" from the 1950s, UGA ended the series. The UGA fan base is primarily filled with people who have no experience with the GT/UGA game being a competitive rivalry, the same is true of the GT fan base. If not for the parents of the current students at both schools neither student body would have much in the way of passion about the game.

You mean grandparents or great grandparents?

some of you are too concerned with whether it’s a rivalry for uga fans. They started dedicating an entire week to defending against the option during summer camp and started scheduling FCS opponents with option before our game after they lost in 2008. All it takes is one win to put the spark back in it, yet you wanna give up a 100 year old rivalry because your vaginas hurt too much.

It takes more than a new AD + “HR HC hire” to change the current state of GT football. The school itself has to actually want to support the new AD & HC with $$$ for resources, etc in order for the current trend to be broken.

To add onto that, what continues to be missed is, what coaches are interested in GT. Look around college football at the moment. GT will be going for some assistant coach from an SEC school, or a MAC level HC. And that’s only if some other programs don’t change coaches. Look at the last coaching search final 2 of Collins and Whisenhunt. The guy had 2 winning seasons as an NFL HC. He was let go by the Chargers in October of 2019 and is currently not coaching.

So a coaching search that didn’t require a 7-$10 million buyout ended up with Collins. With that that buyout + a cheap school is really promising towards getting it right next time…….Yeah sure…….

News flash……It’s not a rivalry when one opponent doesn’t consider the other opponent much of one. While Johnson had a few blips of success, GT also lost one (2009) when they had all the momentum. UGA is a much stronger program now compared to any other point in their football history. UGA‘s only concern these days when playing GT is to not come out of the scrimmage with any significant injuries.

The list of rivalries for UGA in order presently are:

1. UF
2. Alabama
3. Auburn

An Atlantic size Ocean gap to 4,5 of GT, UTjr.

Do you honestly think that all it’s going to take is for GT to hire a new HC, and like magic UGA will no longer finish with top 3 recruiting classes every year? If so, you haven’t paid one bit of attention to the overall change of that program since CKS took over.

I’ve watched Tech beat uga with top 3 recruiting classes before. The answer isn’t “it’s not a rivalry” or “stop playing them”. And I don’t give a öööö about how uga fans rank their rivalries. They’re full of öööö.

So you honestly think GT is more of a rivalry than Bama at the present time?

Beating UGA that had top 3 recruiting classes in a different era of CFB has nothing to do with the current state of the game. Have you paid any attention to the last 3-5 years of CFB? Doesn’t seem you’re even looking at what’s going on with the $$$ invested into the top programs, NIL, conference expansion, etc.

Where do you think GT is as it relates to $$$ invested into the program, resources, NIL and the future of pay for play?

You seem focused on what uga fans are saying to you and I keep telling you they’re full of öööö. I’ve seen how much they care when they lose and they will lose again. I’ve seen a worse drought than the one we’re currently on and I didn’t hear anyone advocating stopping playing them. Unless you’re a uga fan then your posts make more sense.

I don’t live near any UGA fans. Haven’t in a decade. I have buddies who I grew up with that are UGA grads, and I can assure you that they are only concerned with Bama 1st, UF 2nd right now. Generally it’s not much of a rivalry when someone loses 1 or 2x every 15 years. Michigan-Ohio State and Alabama-Auburn seem to be the exceptions. UGA‘s games with UF and Alabama matter more now due to the implications of the outcome.

I’m a sidewalk fan who has lost a lot of interest over the years after living in multiple parts of the country. I’ve been to numerous P12, B1G, SEC, ACC stadiums / facilities. You can see the drastic difference in GT vs Wisconsin for example.

I’ve become more of a CFB fan. It actually makes Saturday much more enjoyable. You watch good games to enjoy the games. I know that’s not the common fan on this board. I’m also not saying the rivalry should be canceled, but I can see the future where it becomes an every other year game when conference expansion is finalized in the next 5 years.

Fixing the rivalry isn’t just about an AD or coaching change. It’s going to take every single person buying in at GT to want to be a Top 25 program. With the NCAA being removed as the governing body of CFP football, there can’t be the built in excuses like APR when that happens.

I can agree with this.

Meh. A single win here or there only gets the spark going for our fans, not theirs. I guess that's good for us, but as others have said Ugag considers us nothing more than a scrimmage now. Winning 3 times in the last 21 years does not put any spark back into the series. We are below them right now by a very wide margin. I'm not advocating for ending the series, but many of our fans spend a lot of time worrying about UGA when their fans aren't spending a sec worrying about Tech. That's a not a rivalry. At this point, we are no better than Vandy to them.
