Stop playing UGA

GT has only beaten UGA 17 times in the last 60 years ,this is not a rivalry anymore. UGA has won the last 4 in a row (it would be 5 but COVID saved a loss) and unless something miraculous happens that streak doesn't appear to be ending any time soon. I wouldn't be surprised if, after winning 9 in a row to top the "drought" from the 1950s, UGA ended the series. The UGA fan base is primarily filled with people who have no experience with the GT/UGA game being a competitive rivalry, the same is true of the GT fan base. If not for the parents of the current students at both schools neither student body would have much in the way of passion about the game.
Given the fact that the average UGA fan is likely over forty or so, I think most of us remember, despite a likely drunken stupor, that Tech defeat us in 2016 inside Sanford Stadium.

Meh. A single win here or there only gets the spark going for our fans, not theirs. I guess that's good for us, but as others have said Ugag considers us n
I stopped reading after this. I don’t give a öööö what they say they consider us. I keep saying this, I said It 4 times in this thread, and you idiots keep telling me how much they say they don’t care as the reason there’s no rivalry.

Well, it's rather simple really. When 50% of the rivalry doesn't consider it a rivalry, it's not a rivalry, lol. Sure, you think it is & that's awesome, but that's just our side. But hey man, you do you, keep on believing

:dunno:

And 2014.

Someone seems to be Barry concerned about what UGA fans think

Nah, you do you bro. The recent results might suck, and the lopsided W/L, but I'm not a self-loathing Tech fan nor am I a moron UGA fan, so I'll keep on valuing the history and tradition of college football as well as Tech's potential, and the vast majority of UGA games since I became a fan 25 years ago, that have been more competitive than not.

As long as there is a Georgia Tech-Georgia game in ANYTHING, there will be a rivalry. You want to make up some other definition for yourself have at it but no one has to accept it.

It takes more than a new AD + “HR HC hire” to change the current state of GT football. The school itself has to actually want to support the new AD & HC with $$$ for resources, etc in order for the current trend to be broken.

To add onto that, what continues to be missed is, what coaches are interested in GT. Look around college football at the moment. GT will be going for some assistant coach from an SEC school, or a MAC level HC. And that’s only if some other programs don’t change coaches. Look at the last coaching search final 2 of Collins and Whisenhunt. The guy had 2 winning seasons as an NFL HC. He was let go by the Chargers in October of 2019 and is currently not coaching.

So a coaching search that didn’t require a 7-$10 million buyout ended up with Collins. With that that buyout + a cheap school is really promising towards getting it right next time…….Yeah sure…….
South Carolina hired an ACC assistant coach and it looks like they got a good one … Frank Beamer’s son. I wish we had gotten him.

Oklahoma State has only beaten Oklahoma 11 times in 60 years, but that doesn’t stop them from being ranked, top ten and having hype. Y’all some straight up pussys.

A good analogy. Not only is the rivalry one sided, Oklahoma fans consider Texas and the neutral site game with them bigger than the State game. But, the game still matters.

Wondering if dropping the rivalry could be a plus for your program, I would suggest Tulane as an example to consider. Not playing LSU has not seemed to invigorate them.

The joy of 2008, 2014 and 2016 as our former coach walked into Athens with his teams and won is not too long ago. He was close to getting two wins at home and another in Athens.

Chan Gailey could not get a win, but several times we were right there. The current coach has yet to have his teams compete. He is also facing Georgia on a positive streak with the best head coach they have had since Dooley. But, it is no time to quit.

Calm down my guy. Never said anyone had to agree with me as it's 100% opinionated, but many an idiot Ugag fan agrees with me (several family members sadly) & don't see us as a rivalry right now as we have fallen woefully behind them. Could we get back to being competitive? Sure & I'd over nothing more than that very thing as nothing is better than a W to end the season, good or bad, over those idiots.

You're also doing what you're accusing me of doing in trying to force your opinion that it is a rivalry onto me. You think it is, I do not. Not at this point in time at least.

I’ve watched Tech beat uga with top 3 recruiting classes before. The answer isn’t “it’s not a rivalry” or “stop playing them”. And I don’t give a öööö about how uga fans rank their rivalries. They’re full of öööö.
Not a rivalry when we win 3 games in the last 20+ years and haven't won't at home since 1999...

Did Spurrier or UF fans consider uga a true rival with the lopsided record then ? Well, the answer is unimportant, but what is important, we will never be a rival to any meaningful program until it's as important to our President, as said meaningful program's is to their President. All one has to do is look at Richt's record and see what their Prez did, to understand this. THWG

My cousin is a UF grad alum, graduated UF in 99'. He said most Gator fans didn't think of Ugag as a rival in the 90s and beginning of the 2000's as they only won 3 times in that span to 2007. He said they basically expected it to be an auto win.

Small sample size of one. I grew up in Florida. Went to high school there. Lived there 25 years. All the rest of my family still lives there. Many friends still there. Many of them Gator alumni.

ugag was always a rival for UF and UF fans always considered it so, right after the Semiholes who will always be the top rival. There were a few years during the Spurrier/Fulmer/Peyton era when Tennessee was on a par with ugag. But ugag was never not a rival, and the world's largest outdoor cocktail party was never not a big game.
