Taylor Bennett..

Whether right or wrong there is and always will be a double standard.

Then how do you explain a Byron Leftwich or a Doug Williams? You are correct in general, but not in total. While in general, a quote like "White Men can't jump" is correct, many white men can jump higher than equally sized men of other races.

Making overreaching statements like you did is either acceptable or it is racist. Which is it? Most white males want to know, since we are allowed to be denigrated by generalities, yet cannot make similiar statements about others. For some reason, it is acceptable to give Asians credit for being smarter, but not African Americans for being more athletic.

Taylor Bennett is a white guy?

I say we win by 4 touchdowns.

Choice rushes for 150yds Bennett passes for 300.
Nute throws a shutout.

GO JACKETS!!!

GeeTee is an imbecile, by the way.

I have no idea who Gee Tee is, but I don't have an arguement against those that can't stomach 51-7's, losing to georgia 5 straight, and playing one inferior quarterback for 4 straight years, without seeing what else we have, in an actual game.

That said, I still think CG is the best man for this program. He is still learning how to be a Head Coach.

Neither do I - that view has nothing to do with my assessment.

Hey, I didn't write the article. I just posted it for anyone to read. All I said was that whether right or wrong, there is a double standard! So please explain to me how I overreached in making a true statement about how society, in general, views black and white athletes?

All us geniuses here at ST don't just have a case of bus overcrowding, we apparantly have a case of short bus overcrowding, for fans and coaches alike.

Just give me a window seat and I'll be just fine.
Merry Christmas everyone!

How many white kids or latin kids care about track and field in this country ? I mean from elementary school forward. That would be about 0. They are busy playing soccer and baseball. How many black kids in this country care about hockey ? That would be about 0. How many canadian high schoolers care about soccer ? That would be about 0.

moving on ...

I ran track for a few years and loved it, but I couldn't turn my 5.0 speed into 4.4 speed no matter how many sprints I ran. It's a good thing I could throw a discus.

Have you considered that your own self assessment isn't the best indicator? If you will forgive the expression, it's not a black or white kind of thing. There's a whole spectrum ranging from neo-Nazi Klan members to the ever elusive person who truly is race-blind.

I submit that we ALL are racist to a varying degree. And only the extremists actually think of themselves as racist.

I know lots of people who don't consider themselves racist that I consider racist, and some of them are in my own family. They generally betray themselves in subtle ways, like references to "those people" or other generalizations. Their behavior is quite different in public than it is around people they believe think as they do. So they rationalize that they aren't racist "after all, I have black friends."
(The funny thing about the internet is that we sometimes make that same assumption about our audience in our anonymity.)

Very few want to think of themselves as racist, so they rationalize that racists are more extreme in their beliefs and that anyone who accuses them of being racist is "just being politically correct." It is a simple pat answer that allows one to keep from considering that there may be at least a bit of truth to the accusation.

P.S.
To make my point....I recall a television program about the effects of names (20/20 I think). As an experiment they submitted various identical resumes to several prominent companies with the only difference being that some had "black sounding names." I would wager none of the hiring authorities considered themselves racist, yet guess what happened?

Thank you for presenting a good post for this debate. I agree with you that to some degree we are all (black/white/asian/etc.) racist. The problem comes when people like MM42 claim that a person is an extreme racist simply by pointing out the differences in typical athletic abilities. As others have pointed out, there is a difference amongst races when it comes to athletics, and it is okay that there is a difference. I'm a white guy with plenty of athletic ability, but I could never match the speed of most of the black kids we played against. It's genetics.

BTW, I refrained from making the "I'm not racist because I have black friends" comment. That one always sets people off.

I didn't call you an extreme racist, I called you a racist idiot. Try to pay attention, at least.

Here is the definition of racism:

rac·ism /ˈreɪ
thinsp.png
sɪz
thinsp.png
əm/ [rey-siz-uh
thinsp.png
m] –noun 1.a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human races determine cultural or individual achievement

This is an exact description of ... YOU!

That explains the "racist" part, the "idiot" part is because you don't know what racism is and you refuse to learn and to stop practicing it.

Here, Geetee, I'll tell you what I know about Tater....

He was not recruited by many college football powers, but he did almost take an offer from Fresno State instead of GT. If I recall correctly he only played football for one year in high school, so he must have some natural talent.
Actually, Tater was recruited heavily by Boise State. He was the number one target at QB that year for them. TB originaly verbaled to us but de-comitted and comitted to BSU. CCG & staff didn't give up and were able to get an LOI from him anyway on signing day. I heard Hawkins, BSU head coach at the time, was none too happy about it.

He did play /practice all four years in HS, but only started as a Senior. He played 2nd string to a pretty highly recruited QB as a soph & junior.

He made rivals top 20 in Missouri as a Senior and almost all other top 20 or 30 list in the state. The scoop on Tater was that he was a raw talent, but had a "live" arm and a big frame to grow in to.

TB also graduated in December of his senior year and enrolled at GT early, so even though he is only a RS Soph, he has already been through 3 spring and 3 fall camps. I'm looking forward to see how he steps up to the opportunity. He's a good kid, I hope he does well. If he can throw more TD's than picks, I think we'll have a chance.

the first ignorant and potentially racist post in this thread.

So, no black kids play hockey or as you imply baseball yet there are more African American professional baseball players % wise than there are adult African Americans in the US.

White men and black men are different. It's science and if you can't handle the truth then that's ignorance that has just lead to prejudice and on a road to racism.

There are differences but the differences are not absolute. You left off that part of the science.

Tell you what. Until you can learn how to actually debate, I'll just let this drop. I would assume someone with a Master's degree can come up with something better than "yeah? well you're a racist idiot!", but I guess I was wrong.
