That's my coach, Part Two

I am 100 percent for Key. The last two weeks have been completely different from the previous three and a half years. There is not one coach in the world I would prefer over Brent Key. I don't want an ego centered new AD to come in here and feel like he needs to make a big splash with some new flashy big name coach from somewhere else. I did not have any idea how good these coaches and players could be with a new HC and AD. These last two games have been close and would have been easy to lose. But, Tech won them. And the difference is amazing to me. I also give Coach Collins credit for bringing some good coaches and players to Tech. But, he wasn't able to win with them. Key has won two close games with the same coaches and players. There are still six games to go, and I haven't heard how our QB is. But, this is the best I've felt about Tech football in a long time. I hope this continues.

Yea... I was fully on the Prime Time train two weeks ago. Not now.

It's probably a Collins-induced habit but I keep waiting for something bad to happen. Thing is, it did... we were down many OL, officials were deciding the game in the 4th, and they sat on their flags while our QB got knocked out by a dirty hit. Bad things happened and we won anyway. The difference IMO is players had given up on Collins but are fighting for Brent.

I think that's why I'm on the Key train now. He needs to win 3 more to earn the job realistically, but I hope that happens. I like him and I think the turmoil of the change will be muted that way. He can start selling the program to the next generation pretty quickly if the GTAA makes him official right after our last game.

I am pulling for Key and Georgia Tech. Every week is a new audition. The bar is high though for me to think he's the guy, and there were certainly blatant coaching mistakes that could have easily cost us the last two games. Get better. Just win.

Give em hell, CBK.

I am pulling for key to get the job now. We looked well coached. Need to get the OL and DL recruited in properly. We have some players in place, but GT being GT, can hardly fill a quality 2 deep.

And Blackstrain will be a game changer

McCollum is a hell of a ball player.

I will maintain we should make a quick and decisive call on Key Thanksgiving weekend. We should know exactly where we want to go if we prefer another direction at that time. We have time to network with candidates and time to evaluate Key. It makes little since to say hire him after wins and fire him after every loss.

What I will say is that I will always be grateful for his work in interim. Tech football was at an awful, embarrassing place. He immediately took the reins and we got two wins, played hard, focused on football, and energized the fans and students. A program that barely had a pulse after Ole Miss and UCF is back to competing in the conference, winning some games, and making Saturday’s fun again. That deserves our gratitude, though not necessarily a permanent hire as HC. Just play out the season under the direction of someone who clearly is willing to work hard to help the kids on this team enjoy some success.

Tech football is fun again!!!

We have the look and feel of a real team again! This feels like O'Leary's first team in '95. This group is playing with passion and flying to the ball like we haven't seen in years.

Key won't go 8-0, but what a much needed injection of no-nonsense energy he has pumped into the program. I'm rooting with everything I've got for him to earn the FT job.
Only one thing i did not like, we attempted to milk the clock way too early. Never try until under 4 minutes left.

Could someone please do this with Key's face?

We actually didn't try to milk it away. We ran milk it away plays, but didn't use the play clock to our advantage. You should take a MINIMUM of 2:30 off the clock without even getting a first down.

Really critical was us needing the first down to ice the game when Duke had time outs to burn. We took 26 seconds off the clock and punted. We needed that first down.

The bar is high but he's just gone up two of the toughest three hills -- beating two good teams, one on the road, after taking over on short notice. Now he has a bit of a breather with the bye week to hopefully fix even more things.

I'm not sure how high the chances are that he wins the job, but I do know they are a lot higher than they were two weeks ago.

What would Key have to do at this point to win ACC Coach of the Year? Has an interim ever won ACC Coach of the year?
