The Dark Side of NIL and Portal Transfers

MLB operates without one, as do overseas soccer leagues -- I think CFB will be the same.
MLB still has the Competitive Balance (Luxury) Tax. EPL and UEFA use Profit and Sustainability Rules. Both are tied to player compensation. They're softer than a cap, but still impact what a team's payroll.

Well, time for you super fans to finally walk the the talk....

This is The Tech Way, except we get nothing in return (swag, etc)

Unpopular opinion , maybe. But as half assed and poorly thought out the portal and NIL stuff is, it only serves to help schools like Tech and harm the factories. As soon as there are salary caps etc, the factories will just go back to their mature underground bagmen to pay players like they always have above the salary cap. I’m good with keeping things as is. Maybe some tweaking of the calendar , but no salary caps.
It's unpopular for many reasons, but at it's core it helps the factories get rid of their recruiting mistakes and hurts programs like GT who invest a lot of money, time, and effort to recruit guys like Singleton and Rutherford only to have a deep pocketed factory buy em, once they see that we found one they didn't.
The only help to middle programs like us, is it helps with depth. Are there exceptions, of course there is, but this crap is out of control and much much worse than the bagmen of the past.
Another unpopular facet of cFB, is the constant roster churn and little to no true affiliation for the school that first signed you. A LOT of these kids would have never developed to the degree they have if they first signed with a factory. Do they appreciate such, obviously not.

I largely agree with this. It's the main reason I'm not a fan of the NFL. There is nothing to be "fanatic" about. I can appreciate the talent and will watch a game when they matter in the playoffs or Super Bowl but most of the action is just not very interesting to me. There isn't a connection between players and franchise other than the money they are paid. No passion, just business.

College football use to matter. There was a connection between the school and the "student athlete". Maybe that was tenuous and diminishing over the years but it was still enough to matter.

Now, it just feels like another version of pro ball. Sad to say, but if it continues like this, I will care less and less until I stop giving it much attention at all.

Sign of the times I guess.

The players are just following the lead that their coaches have done for years. Washington State, Jax State, Ohio U , Marshall, and UNLV had coaches that had signed contracts that left their schools before a bowl game. The coaches mostly has 5 year contracts and show absolutely zero loyalty to the school

If you want to delay the portal to after the bowl games the coaches cannot leave also.
