Not exactly football, but where did our logo come from? Who came first? Did we steal the George Town G and the Tennessee T or did they steal from us?

Semi-related question: why the hell did we start using the GT Buzz with a navy blue background on ESPN? It looks terrible in such a small space.

I agree 100% I wish we used the GT logo with EVERYTHING. The GT logo looks better and more serious.

There was an article about it in the recent Alumni magazine. It was apparently conceived by an student (was was also a pretty good artist) who did artwork for the campus humor magazine.

Perhaps I'm mis-remembering...did someone else see this article?

Hmm, actually I;m not sure if our G is George Town's.

Nah, their G is different....

However, I'm pretty sure I've heard in the past that the bastards from the East ripped off G'town's old Bulldog logo and transformed it into their own.

Soooo Tennessee took our G or the student copied it?

And UGAy can't come up with anything themselves.

I like the navy background, but I too wish they only had the GT logo and left Buzz out. Their previous version was a black GT, which always frustrated me.

My guess is they probably got some new blood in their graphics department. Clemson's is also different now (orange paw on white background; was a white paw on orange background). Seems like a couple other logos have been changed slightly too.

Georgetown's G and Tennessee's T don't look anything like our letters... The interlocking GT is an original logo with a much different typeface than either of those school's logos.

So the logo with the yellow jacket next to it is our official logo? I thought it was just the GT...

EDIT: And wtf? The website called it a bee instead of a yellow jacket. We're not SCAD.

TBICR, our GT appeared in the 1967 football season as an original logo. Thuga's came in around 1964 - 65 (w/ Vince Dooley) after NFL's Green Bay started using it with their Lombardi championship teams.

The original Tech "T" looks really similar to the Tennessee "T" if you ask me. Here is the GT football team in 1893.

For comparison, here is Tennessee "T".

I saw the article. IIRC, it said the GT logo was designed by a Tech football player at the request of the coach. Before that, we had a "T" that looked liked the Tennessee "T" except ours was usually white outlined in black/gold.
