The man doesn't sleep

I have no idea where you get your stats

Trends are changing especially with youth sports. People tend to watch sports as they age if the played them growing up. Youth baseball participation is up significantly over a decade or two ago. Football is in a sharp decline. Middle-class and especially upper middle-class kids are playing football much, much less than ever and playing baseball much more than they did the last generation. Lacrosse is obviously impacting football as well.

That is a severe downward trend. Most of the young hispanics I know are more interested in Soccer than Baseball - and Adidas owns Soccer

Mexicans are definitely soccer fans but with 40% of the MLB players being Hispanic, baseball is huge in many Spanish-speaking countries and especially in Puerto Rico, Venezuela, Dominican, etc. Baseball is the most popular sport in many Spanish-speaking countries. I am more comparing baseball to football. American football in 20 years is going to have issues. Kids are not playing and students aren't going to the games. The stadiums are way too big. My niece at UGA has gone to 3 UGA games in 3 seasons but she and her friends often go to Atlanta to Braves games or United games.

The "you'll shoot your eye out", helicopter mommy, and litigious society problems hurt football. Then again, I've known plenty of people who torn their knees up playing soccer.

No other sport causes widespread traumatic brain injury. Without a real solution (and soon), football is in serious trouble.

Does the term "punch drunk" mean anything to you?

x2. Reggie beat Auburn twice. TQM couldn't even beat UT. Reggie's arm strength and mechanics >>>> TQM's.

TQM was a better runner but that's it.
Yeah, Reggie Ball was definitely a better QB that TaQuon Marshall, he just had to play in a worthless offensive system. Had Reggie and Calvin played in CPJ's offense he would have been an All-ACC caliber player. He was tougher than any GT QB I've ever seen outside of Joshua Nesbitt, and we all know how that worked out.

Marshall is just a running back that had to play QB. It's that simple.

Soccer is notorious for concussions, so I wouldn’t say no other sport.

But football is in the spotlight and has some serious problems. I think kickoffs are on their way out. Maybe just make the scoring team start 4th and 20 from their own 35 yard line.

I can see the halo rule returning, or possibly making all punts fair catches.

Probably the worst thing for brain injuries is the under center pro style zone blocking where the OL and DL bang helmets every down. Cut blocking is much safer from a brain injury standpoint.

If I have learned anything from posting on Stingtalk, is that I better be prepared for scrutiny lol. I appreciate everyone's input and opinion :)

right, and look what happened to boxing.

It got superseded by an even more brutal way to cause brain damage - MMA.

But guys are still getting millions for major PPV boxing matches.

So you're saying football will be replaced by Rollerball.

Do you have a source on that? I had actually read that even though MMA looks more brutal, it's actually less damaging to the brain as a whole because of the lack of gloves.

Similar to how rugby's lack of head protection compared to football paradoxically leads to a lower rate of brain damage.

Calvin would have transferred or declared for the draft early. I agree with the rest of your post.

Marshall wasn’t even a running back due to his small size. He was more like a slot receiver playing qb.

I was talking about the hypothetical scenario John posted.

If Calvin had been on the team in 2008 and not yet eligible for the draft, I think he would have stuck it out under PJ rather than transfer. However, I doubt he would have ever committed to us as an option school, in spite of his parents' emphasis on education. He probably ends up at Stanford, Vandy, etc.

I would imagine balls bouncing off your head constantly at high speed could give one a concussion.

There wasn't a source on CTEs in football 20 years ago. It'll take time for the relative risk of MMA vs. boxing to come to light. I'd guess that being able to receive kicks to the head offsets not using gloves.
