I'm a Collins fan but given last year, we should be able to hold onto him for at least 3 seasons and he would have to do great things: at a minimum get back to the ACC Champ game and finish near the top 10.
Also, who is he going to leave for? I'm not saying it is impossible but he does have a lot of ties to the Atlanta area, he has a staff that has a lot of ties to GT. He isn't going to leave for a lateral move. He isn't going to leave for any other ACC school. Big 10? What is the connection? Big 12? Same.
So we are likely looking at the SEC and like I said, not lateral, Tenn or Auburn could throw a lot of money at him but if there are willing to do that, then that means he has done great things here so GT will also be willing to up the payment. I figure he would rather stay at GT and the program he built over moving to a program where he would have to build it up.
So then we are looking at Bama, UGA, LSU, Texas AM and Florida. UGA is out. Not good connections to LSU and Texas AM, so Bama and Florida seem like the only obvious choices.
If Bama wants him, then they probably get him but they will have their pick of 100 coaches to choose from. The likelihood that Collins is their 1st choice is slim. Basically the same for Florida but I think they likely would only want him if his record is special. Florida fans like to think they are Ohio State and Bama so they aren't going to take Collins if he looks like a "reach".
This is one thing I'm not worried about in the least. Collins doesn't have obvious ties that would cause him to leave quickly. He is also old enough that he needs GT to be very successful if he wants to have a good HC career and even the opportunity to get another job. His record isn't established enough that he would get another HC job with mediocre performance at GT. He is important to GT but GT is also very important to Coach Collins.
