This board held a near consensus ...

Where is the stat for his dash to the end zone on that two point conversion attempt Saturday?

I have no problem with going for 2 based on our kicking woes; but whoever on our coaching staff thought that was a good play during practice? :eekfacepalm: Graham must be bored, put him in as holder and make it a kick, run, pass option.
Running Harvin on that two point try was an obvious panic move. It told all of our team, the other team, and the other coaching staff and any staff that is scouting us, that we have zero confidence that we can make a PAT by kicking.

Did they need that to feel that way?

Carpenter has been horrendous this year.

I think he is injured. He missed a lot of time in the pre-season with no explanation. Left the FSU game and never came back and just seems off. If the red-shirt rules were still in place, then I would expect an announcement that his season was done.

Might have been our best defender last year, also.

Time for a golf analogy. We can now hit the ball as far as other elite players (teams) where we physically could not do that before. So, we’ve had considerable improvement to the physical side of the game. Now, we’re hitting it OB too frequently (TOs) and two many 3 putts (penalties). This is the mental side that takes longer and can only be fixed with coaching coupled with lots of time on the range. (practice reps and game experience). Thinking a couple great players translates to winning championships is like thinking that if you can make birdies, you can win a tournament. We have a way to go, but we’re making considerable progress.

Drive for show and putt for dough. But don't tell DeChambeau that !!

That's kind my point. I appreciate TC's contribution to this team, I do. Frankly, I'm not sure we beat FSU without that hit. I appreciate all our upperclassmen who have bought into this turnaround project.

But we're listing our best upperclassmen, and even then....

I had not thought of that; but you are right. It also says they knew going into the game it was a problem and that was the best solution the coaching staff could come with. I repeat, the best solution the coaching staff could come up with. Not fix the blocking, not adjust the kicker, not put in an athlete to run the attempt; but have Harvin try to outrun the defense to the corner.

I suppose we should just take our lumps this year and play the QB of the future with the payoff next year and beyond but it is frustrating to know that we cant win with the turnover rate he produces. Yates, however, should not be the back up. He has no arm worth wasting second team reps on. I dont care how well he understands the offense, either Graham or Gleason should be the back up since they can actually throw the ball.

As a realist, I understand that no one is guaranteed tomorrow. I might die tomorrow and never see Tech have another winning season, or not see Tech win another game this season because the aforementioned "QB of the future" has been allowed to stay on the field despite being a turnover machine. I can also see that some of those behind him (this "QB of the future" that you have anointed) will regard their chances to play elsewhere are better if they cannot unseat a turnover machine here. I can see a defensive player tee off in practice on a no contact jersey wearing "QB of the future" that is a turnover machine that increases the number of snaps that he will have to play during a game, mind you it might not be a full form tackle but a very vigorous shove to the turf. I can see that a future QB recruit that sees a turnover machine "QB of the future" continue to make the same mistakes without repercussions will likely view that the coaching he will receive here to be subpar and sign somewhere else.

It was a one time play trying to catch the defense off-guard. You're way over thinking it or your hated for CGC blinds you. It's probably a little of both.

... when CPJ retired that there was likely not one player on our team who would start on a top-25 football program.

I can say that objectively, while still being a big fan of CPJ, and appreciative of the fun years we had while he was our coach. I don’t have any grudge about that, and even loved his swagger personality despite some frustrating years.

But the facts are that we were no longer able to attract P5 let alone championship level talent because of the system. And the talent grew to the point that as genius as the system is/was, it couldn’t bridge the gap.

So we ripped the bandaid off and hired a recruiting specialist to turn the roster around. We are 2 classes into it. Our QB and RB are basically high schoolers. Our future is completely well-regraded freshmen and redshirt freshmen. Sure we have a couple of transfers mixed in, and a couple of seniors who have worked hard (and totally bought in to a new regime) to develop into leaders for this team, whom we all appreciate.

As CPJ says, it’s never as good or as bad as it seems. FSU the former, the last two games the latter.

We look like a really talented, really raw/green team. That’s exactly what we are. Sure it’s frustrating, and sure we should play better. I think I’ve seen tons is ways we look way better, and plenty where we look disorganized and undisciplined. I guess I just thought we all had lower expectations than a ton of wins in year 2 with the roster overhaul we have in front of us yet.

There is no way to prove this either way but I am skeptical that our talent level was any worse than bottom third of the ACC. Average recruiting rankings would put it closer to the middle and nfl draft picks would put it towards the bottom. I think we all agree that our talent level is increasing and needs to increase if we have a chance to compete with the better teams in the ACC but I am concerned with what we put out there most Saturday’s.

The talent level was within the bottom third. However the highest rated players were heavily skewed toward RB, DB and QB/Athletes who were highly rated based on their potential at other positions. The OL and DL were at the bottom of the conference.

I wish it was one play, our kicking game has been abysmal for at least 3 games. Having the holder trying to catch the defense off guard is not the complaint at all, that concept wasn't too bad of an idea, having an overweight punter try and beat the defense to the corner...that ain't gonna work in big boy football.

Agreed, if he had turned up field just outside the tackle box he would have scored. Trying to flank them was either a bad play call or just poor execution on Harvin's part.

Last year’s offense was unwatchable. This year we are moving the ball with considerably more talented players. The turnovers are killing us but there is light at the end of the tunnel.

The kicking game....I don’t see any light at the end of the tunnel. Kicky McCrappo’s all over the roster. Did you know that UGa hasn’t missed an XP since 2013?

Your first sentence is hyperbole.

Some of these 2018 guys, if not all, would be top 25 starters:

KirVonte Benson
Parker Braun
Jalen Camp
Pressley Harvin
Anree Saint-Amour
Juanyeh Thomas

Parker Braun started at Texas in 2019 after he transferred.

I think our talent level was subpar in 2018, but it wasn't as bad as some of y'all make it out to be.

This is a fun game. Let's play it with the current coaching staff. Who do you think would be retained by a top 25 program? I got:

T. Choice - RB's are looking tip top
Bent Key - but at only a fraction of his current salary

This is the issue. It's all water under the bridge but people still seem to think our three-star OL under CPJ is no different than a similar ranked three-star OL from any other FBS team. With an occasional exception, our OL were wayyyyy different in body shape. They were shorter and wider, great for drive blocking but a severe liability in pass pro. Even our best OL (by far) under CPJ, Shaq Mason, is a 3-sigma deviation from the norm in the NFL with his 6'1 frame, with the 50th percentile being 6'5. Thus, there are no tackles who would even play in the rotation at any other P5 school (or even FBS for that matter) and occasionally a few guards since they can have shorter arms. Thus, our recruiting rankings are incomparable to other schools. Even our skill position ratings are off kilter since typically that 4-star QB is actually 4-stars for other positions but nobody wanted them as a QB.
