Stay at Houston, win 9 games a year, win the league 50% of the time, win a NY6 bowl every once in a while, they rename the stadium after you and you get a statue.

Go to Texas, make like 20% more money, win 11 games and the big 12 every year or you're fired. Three national championships before you are in the statue conversation.

Would you make that move?

You make that move because it's going to be WAY more than 20% more money

Texas needs to do some real soul searching before they dump Strong and back a dump truck full of money up to Herman's house.

Why exactly is Strong failing? Seems to be more institutional than anything. They could go through a string of 3-4 coaches at $100MM a piece, but it doesn't seem like the head coach is the root of the issue.

I think Houston is willing to shell out ridiculous red-ink numbers to keep him. They could never outbid Texas, but Texas is going to have to come with 6 or 7 million to get to the WAY more mark. Then, once you're paying a guy 6 or 7 million dollars a year, the pressure is really on. If I was Herman, I'd definitely use it as leverage, but no way I'd leave for Texas. Even if it's lucrative, it's only a short term position. Texas, like everyone else, has Saban fever.

If Herman believes he has the talent/recruits to be this goof for a while, another option for Herman is to stay at Houston for a few more years, make the playoffs in a couple of them in NY6 when he doesn't make the playoff. Then he'll be the hottest commodity in college football and can write his own check (which is hopefully not Georgie).

Strong is failing because he keeps a defensive coordinator, Vance Bedford, around year after year when it's obvious he is not coaching the defense well. Not sure why. Maybe Bedford has salacious pics of Strong.

Does this story sound familiar?

He's already the hottest commodity in college football and can make multiple millions of dollars next year. Exactly why should he wait? that's like telling a lottery pick point guard that he needs to stick around school to ride around in the Stinger rather than have a lambo to drive.

Depends on if the B12 takes Houston. I think if they do, then he might stay there and see how it he does in a P5 conference before jumping. Houston has a huge rabid fanbase and with some success could maybe build something. Though it could also go UCF\USF south on them in a hurry if they cannot keep the momentum.

Gotta believe it's Texas. IMO, LSU will go hard (again) after Jimbo, especially if FSU fan base gets angry and/or they win less than 10 games.

If you're an egotistical, competitive dude like nearly all CFB coaches, you do.

Herman makes $3 MM / year right now (Top 25 head coaches), which is more than Paul Johnson. If Houston goes to the B12, his salary goes to $5.5MM/ year (Top 5 head coaches). So the guy isn't riding the Stinger.

If he leaves right now, he could probably land in that same $5.5 MM range for 6 years. Take Houston to the playoffs and he could be looking at a $7+ MM range for 10 years (and might get a statue at Houston, as well).

See my post above.

Texas will just veto letting Houston into the B12.

Herman, aside. Can the B12 continue to exist without expansion? And does expansion make sense without Houston? We're on the verge of moving to the Power 4 conferences.

Texas doesn't care about any of that. They'll be fine if the B12 collapses. It's the other schools not named Oklahoma that will be fighting over chairs once the music stops.
