Turnovers have been the killer this season so far. Last year the Jackets averaged 1.7/game. This year it's 4/game.
Last year's offensive output per game yardage-wise was a miniscule 286.5. This year we're around 420+.
We've increased our YPG by about 50% over last year. Turnovers have kept the offense down.
The OL is much improved, although still a bit below average, IMO. Poor pass protection has been partly to blame for the turnovers (partly). Next up is to get the turnovers fixed. Easier to do that than find a way to win with an anemic 286.5 YPG output, so if you look at it in that way things are actually looking up.
There have been some bonehead decisions by the coaching staff but I wouldn't go so far as to say we're poorly coached overall. And we are certainly a bigger, stronger team than last year, though the linebacking corps is unimproved and still well below P-5 standards. The jury is out on a raw but talented QB. We'll see what happens, but there's plenty of reason for hope. For perspective, just keep in mind how bad this team was last year. Without Jordan Mason, we're probably 0-12 in 2019.
