It's Thursday so why not give some people something to think about. We have a whole bunch of threads explaining why the staff needs to go or just this or that coach needs to go, so I'd actually like to hear your guys personal top 5 coaches that need to GO.
1. Andrew Thacker. Just to young he can be a position coach, but you should look for someone with more years to be a leader and play caller for the whole defense.

2. Nathan Burton. He for one is the Co-defensive Coordinator and safeties coach which can explain some things on it's own but, the second thing is the schools he coached at are just beyond questionable on why he needs to be a part of our staff. Two of his stops were at famous schools such as Shorter and West Alabama.

3.Kerry Dixon. This one may be an odd one but, if you look at the fact that he for one played receiver? I tried looking up his stats and there was no where I could find them. Besides that he has only coached receivers at Florida where at the time his pal goof Collins was DC but every other school was either a QB coach or RB coach. Also his recivers aren't exactly the most consistent with catching look at the miami game this year for just a small example.

4. Jeff Popovich. PLease watch when a run first team gets their season high in passing yards while we drop 8 into coverage.

5.Dave Patenaude. I think that this is more off of the premise that he has some plays that there is no reason to call along with the lack of using his strengths. From what I can tell though is he is trying to make Jeff sims into a passer when he should scheme around his running ability first, and there is no reason that you can't run a dual back set more. I get you wanna be diverse but, you need to use what you have to win and that for me and most would be the absolute beast of a RB room that we have.

I have a feeling that Collins was only hired at UF and MSU for his recruiting acumen. There was a guy (Rodney Garner) that coached defense at UT and then UGA that could recruit lights out but he was a terrible coach. I think Collins’s situation is the same.

And someone like that could be a great head coach if they hired great assistants.

We need to recruit some OL from Ohio, Pennsylvania, Iowa, other Midwestern states. Get guys who maybe will flip from Wisconsin or Nebraska or Iowa.

For me it's Thacker, Burton, Popovich, and Wiesehan. I have seen little to no positive contribution from any of these 4.
My only thing is Wisehan's group gets no see in the offense but he has got a good return game for special teams

The problem is Collins. As if that needed to be said. The head coach creates a master plan and he hires good coaches to execute his plan. Problem with Collins, the marketing guru, is that his master plan lacks detailed focus on playing football at a high level.

I hate Patenaude the most.
Shocked that Key isn't on the list of five. Not sure what he has done to deserve retention. Hard for Patenaude to call running plays when the RB is getting hit behind the line. Hard to call passing plays when QB's are running for their life. Our o line looks outmatched every game, and that is saying something. Without Gibbs or the QB's running like they do, we would be even worse on the rushing stat sheet. Key needs to go.

The OL hasn't impressed, obviously, but it has improved from historically bad to merely really bad. He's got the toughest job on staff of essentially building a line from scratch. And he is the only assistant with a buyout. He would be snatched up in a heartbeat by another P5 program and we wouldn't find anyone better.

Thack, Burton, Dixon and Popovich are relatively early in their careers. This job was a big jump for them. IMO none of them have proven ready for the assignment. This doesn't mean they (individually) might excel someday but they haven't shown capability on this staff. I don't know if the deficiency is due to either experience or organization skill but it doesn't matter as the on field results are bad.

That being said I tend to guess their issues are due to lack of quality experience.

Patenaude on the other hand has been coaching for thirty years. Most of his career has been at schools comparable to Shorter and West Alabama. My point is he should be more adept at his craft given his time in the profession. He most likely bumped elbows with several D1 coaches during his time in the New England area but no one took a chance with him. I wonder why.

We can replace all the coordinators but if Collins can't/won't organize and lead them effectively then there is no point.

True but part of the problem is our zone read running plays are slow developing. Same for our pass plays. It seems our QB needs three to four seconds to go through his progressions. Thats an eternity for any offensive line much less ours.
Now this doesn't excuse the multiple times we have seen o linemen not touch anyone.
It may be a case where Dave and Brent don't work well together. IDK

I’m willing to see what Patenaude can do with a functional offensive line. He was putting up monster numbers at Coastal Carolina before fan favorite Jamey Chadwell got there.

Thacker has no proven track record of success anywhere as a DC.

Pat didn't throw the red zone interception when the QB likely could have run for the TD
