Transfer Portal Tracker

Yeah our DL situation went from a 4-alarm fire to 5-alarm.

Anyone have any case for how we're going to have a decent DL next year? We'd need several good DL out of the portal, and, inexplicably, we just let one go. It makes me think there is misprioritizing in our roster management. We're recruiting WRs and OL when DL is the overriding need.
Good news is, there are plenty of DL options available through the Portal. Problem is, GT is battling everyone else for the same transfers. This is turning into a Colorado type scenario along the DL (which has definitely been the weakest link for the better part of 16 years).

Current DL Portal entries:

It is barely like free agency in the NFL because there is no limits to any of it, no contracts, and no responsibility to the schools on the part of the players.
It’s not really comparable to NFL. There are a finite number of teams in the NFL, defined free agency, a salary cap. There are seemingly an infinite number of teams in CFB, so it’s probably not hard for a journeyman mid like Height to find a few extras bucks. What’s rich about Height’s situation, and correct me if I’m wrong, is he was nonexistent til the last 3 games.

Not blaming the SA.

I'm waiting to see how long it takes for the non revenue generating sports to die off. Football and Men's basketball fund them all.
I still don’t understand how this situation passes Title IX muster, especially once the schools start paying directly.

Finally a coach speaks up. The Transfer Portal should not open until the Playoffs and the bowls are complete. The whole process is ridiculous but there is no reason for the portal to open until the season in finished.

I 100% agree with Franklin. This whole process is a joke right now. Who knows how the coaches can keep track at the moment whether prepping for a regular bowl or the CFP.

However, how can that work? Are all schools going to go back to the Quarter system? Or start semesters later in January to accommodate for the CFP teams to conclude their season? There really are no options to transfer in January if they don’t have a December Portal window. That’s where the Portal is broken at the moment.

Easy. You want to attend another school in spring semester? Quit the team and enroll in the other school as a regular student. Walk on to the team. If you’re good you’ll get your scholly. You want to transfer as a scholarship athlete? Enter the portal after your season is done and enroll in your new school in the summer.

There are a lot of losers who switch jobs every year even if they are only going to make 20 dollars more a week. They eventually run through anybody that would hire them in the field in which they work.
Usually why I throw out resumes, job hopping.

Not at all ideal for the student athletes, but looks badass to type on a screen. Fuck those student athletes!!

I am confident the schools can get the players in later in January. Normally you can add or drop courses for several weeks after school starts. Most of these players are not focused on classes anyway.

There is absolutely nothing unfair in my proposal. Why should portal timing be setup to encourage quitting on the team that you’re probably being paid good money to play on?

Unfair / absurd. All semantics. Pick your favorite

Wouldn't you just have guys quitting the team after the season and then being recruited to walk on somewhere else for 6-7 figures (minus 5 figures they'd pay out of pocket for the spring semester)? So de facto the same thing?
