Transfer Portal Tracker

Players would just opt out of the Playoff. The problem is the portal being open before the end of the postseason. But the portal can't be opened after the postseason because that is when spring semesters start at many universities.
then just open the portal once per year after spring semester. at least then players would have to stick around for full year. you may think twice about transferring if you have already gone thru spring practice. or not.

I have no issue with SAs acting in their best interest. They are just following the incentives that the system has put in place. I do think, however, that if they want the perks of professional or semi-professional athletes, they also need to bear some of the cost. They're absolutely should be salary caps, collective bargaining agreements, and most of all multi-year contracts. In fact, I think if CFB is going to stop pretending that there is any S in SA, then SAs should be subject to being traded. This way teams who recruit well by evaluating elite talent overlooked by other teams get value in return for losing these players.

The system can't be half in, half out. We need to do this NFL minor league style or student athlete style, but in the long term I don't think there's much in between.

Playoffs are not meaningless bowl games. Wouldn’t pro scouts look at killing your team’s chance to win a championship differently from killing your team’s chance to win the Visine Dog Shit Dilbert Bowl?

In addition to the dates, a simple rule of one transfer per career, maybe a waiver if the coach leaves and of course the medical, after that, you sign you stay buddy.
The problem is a rule like that almost certainly violates antitrust law, which is why they got rid of the "sit out a year" transfer rule in the first place.

As others have said, the solution to this is collective bargaining and actual contracts, just like all other modern pro sports have.

I think it will happen in the next couple years because pretty much everyone agrees the current situation is unsustainable and bad for everyone involved.

Can't come soon enough for me. After watching minor men's sports like wrestling go extinct due to title 9, I had to see loads of overweight women parading through airports to go play a softball or volleyball game cross country which literally no one cares about. Now, the NCAA in it's infinite wisdom has outlawed walk-on football players. The only way the insanity ends is for everyone to go broke, burn it all down and start from scratch.
I guess you are the type of guy who would rather watch loads of overweight men parading through airports playing things that literally no one cares about.

I doubt it. If a talented player opts out after the regular seasons and says, "I've enjoyed my time in college but it's always been my lifelong goal to play in the NFL, and I am making that my top priority", I don't think any scouts are going to use that as a reason to pass on him.

I mean, NFL teams will overlook abuse and sometimes even murder to sign talented players. Opting out of college games because you want to make sure you are healthy for the NFL isn't going to be the bridge too far for them, unless maybe you do something like quit day-of.

I would wager that more people care about women's volleyball than men's wrestling. And from what I've watched, they tend to be damn good athletes too. (No doubt male wrestlers are as well, of course.)

I certainly care more about our women’s basketball team than the men right now anyway. Hopefully the men’s team will make a comeback.

It’s not really comparable to NFL. There are a finite number of teams in the NFL, defined free agency, a salary cap. There are seemingly an infinite number of teams in CFB, so it’s probably not hard for a journeyman mid like Height to find a few extras bucks. What’s rich about Height’s situation, and correct me if I’m wrong, is he was nonexistent til the last 3 games.
That time frame is what I remember also. Sounds like we may need to take a more athletic approach to our current DL woes.

Agree. A few more disasters like FSU ugag last year will have them re thinking a bunch of these meaningless bowl games. A good guess is somewhere down the line players will declare for the portal during games and walk off.
good thought lol OR a guy portals out of one team in DEC and joins another team in Jan just in time to play--his OLD TEAM!

Shotgun snap. QB spots his slot receiver Hingle McCringleberry and... OH NO, MCCRINGLEBERRY CALLED "PORTAL" MID-PASS! McCringleberry with the pick and he COULD. GO. ALL. THE. WAY! Pick six!

CFB is just turning into a pickup game.

I told my Ugag inlaw that last year. SEC teams will just send a bagman to the tunnel at halftime and snag whatever player is giving them fits. You took it a step further

Finally a coach speaks up. The Transfer Portal should not open until the Playoffs and the bowls are complete. The whole process is ridiculous but there is no reason for the portal to open until the season in finished.

Of course he is pretty biased. No idea what players he may lose during the 5 day open window for his players after their season ends and so he is hamstrung in not necessarily being able to go after players right now while everyone chases to fill their open roster spots. Penn State and the others will be left chasing the leftovers.

I think Franklin has a pretty good idea who is going to go into the portal after they play their last game. He might also have some ideas about who he will go after, although that might be a bit much to do while practicing for the playoffs.

I read somewhere today that his backup QB has entered the portal and will not be playing in the playoffs.

If a player transfers to a team in the playoff, can they play in the playoff?
