Until any other school attempts to use it.Look at the bright side : at least staggered suspensions are now a precedent.
Only because those fake classes were open to and enjoyed by non-athletes.Why does this surprise anyone? They had fake classes to make non-students eligible to play for them and they didn’t get a single penalty from it. I’m not exaggerating. That literally happened.
I disagree. But either way, it needs to be an honest system. And it definitely isn’t that.Under these scenarios, especially #2, GT would have to drop down to division 2 or lower.
Would be THE worst thingI think SAs should be able to make whatever anyone is willing to pay them. Bring all the money transactions into the light and may the highest bidder win.
OR
Make them truly SAs. Don’t give academic exceptions

What's so sad is how deeply devalued all those UNC degrees are now. I'll never think of President Polk the same way again.
They received a 1-year accreditation probation from SACS, which is the academic equivalent of a slap on the wrist. They should have had their accreditation revoked and been forced to reapply through the process.I don't know if it's sad per se, but I know that from the time they got zero punishment for that fake class BS, I will never ever hire a UNC grad for anything. If a resume says they went to school at UNC it's going in the garbage.

Even that wouldn't have had much of an impact (the State of North Carolina would have probably legislatively accredited UNC to remain approved for federal student loans) but if you don't drop accreditation for fake courses, what does cause you to lose accreditation?
If Miami didn't get the death penalty for Nevin Shapiro, no one will. I mean the guy admitted to giving cash, yacht parties, prostitute, and drugs to 72 recruits over 8 years with the full knowledge of Miami. WTF?Absolutely agree 100%. I thought they should lose accreditation and get the death penalty in basketball and football for at least 2 years.

GT should sue to get the games reinstated citing clear precedence. Alumni would donate to the legal fund.Still doesn’t approach the severity of $312 of clothing. We’re fortunate to not get the death penalty for that.
The reason was because the fake courses applied to a very small number of students, relative to the overall size of UNC.They received a 1-year accreditation probation from SACS, which is the academic equivalent of a slap on the wrist. Nevin Shapiro was an attention-whore. What he claimed was denied by dozens of people. Were they all lying? I have no idea. But it's not like this stuff wasn't researched and investigated. Maybe the investigators got it wrong, who knows? Certainly nobody on this board. If Miami didn't get the death penalty for Nevin Shapiro, no one will. You think some rando science doctoral students should have their entire professional and academic futures erailed because of the misbehavior of the black studies dept? That makes it better? It was a small cross-section because athletes are a small cross-section of the general student body, making the fraud even more clearly intentional and managed by the leadership. The integrity of their academic transcripts in general should be questioned when you have students who loaded up on the fake courses so much they accidentally got minor degrees. To do anything less than revoke/reapply devalues all our degrees in general for the sake of the TV money.
Beat me to it. We need to get our lawyers ready. Are we going to get put on probation because of this?
