Kind of indifferent to it, commented it cause it seems like it's already going to happen.
It would help to have continuity at the QB position if we are going to have a shot at 8 wins.

Not for CGC to stay employed, but to change the narrative surrounding GT FB.

We were outbid by Texas Tech for Kittley we should get ready for chip long I mean he does have expirence at the power 5 better than pnut butter and jelly

He has experience in the one thing all the coaches on the team will need to learn, getting fired at the power 5 level.

Jokes aside, it's a pretty uninspiring hire if it ends up being that. If he is able to force through changes in how practice maybe there can be something to look forward to. Least he might be cheaper than some of the other names that have been thrown about.

It is my understanding that there was a difference in coaching philosophies between Chip and Brian Kelly and the QB coach who was Notre Dame's OC this year. Chip Long had a "no stepping out of bounds" rule in that he wanted his offensive players (including the QB) to get all they could get and he encouraged contact. I think there may have been some other differences of opinion too. Basically, Chip Long was pretty hard and played the "bad cop" to Tommy Rees' "good cop", especially when it came to Ian Book, the QB at the time. I definitely do not hold it against him that he did not get along with Brian Kelly. It was pretty crappy the way he left Notre Dame.
Ok and then he went to Tulane (major step down) and sucked. That's not worthy of $1m+/yr

It’s just hard to imagine why a good or even decent OC would be willing to work for a probable lame duck coach. A desperate guy in need of a job or a P’nude level hire I can see happening.

That concern is a bit overblown. Coordinators bounce around a lot. We are probably offering multiple years. Worst case scenario, we clean house and the coordinator still gets the money and can go somewhere else

Re: Chip Long....let's consider how many Broyle's finalist we've had as OC since the likes of RF, who has recruiting co-ord background too.

But, we could have used a good dose of bad cop the last 3 years, huh? Otoh, how is this gonna mesh with CGC's love fest approach?

I’m concerned about Collins’ willingness to make necessary changes. For instance, and this has nothing to do with actual football, but for three years we’ve had to put up with “money down” even though most fans think it’s lame. Plus, Collins shows no interest in engaging with the fans. There’s no telling what kind of things goes on within the program that we don’t see but drives the other coaches crazy.

The new OC will do a better job than Patenaude--it'd be hard not to--then they'll have improvement to show on their resume. "Improved Georgia Tech offense from 100th in the country to 50th in just one year." So I think it makes a lot of sense.

I really did think we would look at someone who would at least be a real candidate for next head coach. You don't have to promise them a head-coach-in-waiting thing, just that it's a guaranteed interview and an early audition (tanking the team to get Collins fired would harm in the sense).

The more I think about it, the more it feels like going with Long is like a Patenaude Ver 2.0, just a linear intermediate upgrade. Combined with not bringing in an outside DC, feels like we're going to settle on "what we were doing before can work, we just need to do it better", which doesn't seem likely to pan out. I know we Tried to find something much different Kittley, but idk if not getting him means going with some so similar to before.
