I'm going with a couple of things, which are completely off the wall.
The discussion around moving Thacker around while firing Patenaude may come down to Thacker, while sucking as a coordinator, contributing more to the program when taken everything together. In other words, while Patenaude may have sucked less than Thacker, it could have been more than just output or play that Collins took into account. Perhaps, Patenaude wasn't pulling his weight in regards to recruiting (remember that goofy ass text with Sims...???). Maybe, he was butting heads philosophically with the other coaches. Even if it wasn't unprofessional or none of the relationships were outright broken or dysfunctional, you'd still want everyone in the situation we're in to all be rowing together. If one guy is always playing the "ya...but..." game, that can slow things down or stifle innovation. We're at a point now where we need to innovate cause our öööö ain't working.
