We got out-coached today

I would be willing to bet without looking that out of 112 ACC games played this year, no team scored on a greater percentage of their possessions than Duke did against us.

I wouldn't be surprised if no FBS team scored on a greater percentage of their possessions against another FBS team in 1000+ games played this year.

If we had a conventional offense that didn't shorten games, Duke could've put up 60 or 70 on us.

Mercer stopped Bama 4 times

The main place where CPJ is failing is he thinks he can take lower level OL and coach them up. He can a bit but their physical handicaps are still glaring. We not only had to pass in the second half because we needed to catch up. The team was getting whipped up front and couldn't run the ball. Just like long stretches of UVA, UM, mostly all of Clemson. GT has the worst lines of any team I've watched in FBS this year.

and we have a taller QB on the bench with a stronger arm. If we are just going to heave the ball, put him in to heave it

This was not an either/or fail. Outplayed in all 3 phases of the game.

Dies horribilis ...

So if we ran our normal offense in the 4th quarter and got another TD instead of throwing long passes to try to win the game, that would've made you feel better about our offense? Dumb.

We scored 3 touchdowns on 6 possessions before the game was completely out of hand. That is extremely good offense.

I'll just repeat since it's apparently not getting through to people. While the game was in reach, we were doing better offensively against Duke than any team they have played all year. That's including even the 2 third quarter 3-and-outs everyone is whining about.

You can’t just pick and choose the parts of a game you will accept and ignore. If memory serves, our first possession of second half, after duke took a “manageable” one score lead, we went three and out. What in the öööö are you talking about? This has been a theme all year long. Moreover, this year has started a new trend that if it’s 3rd and 5 or more, we are going to run a “play action” (fake handoff to literally no body) and throw a 40 yard floater. Doesn’t matter the score or situation.

The offense was lost. The defense was lost. Coaching has been bad this year. Taq is exciting but he is a god awful option qb. The rare times he pitches the ball they’re often poor pitches. We’re badically running a wildcat on every single offensive snap with Taq.

Enjoy your fantasy world view of this offense. I’m a CPJ fan, I regretfully think that without institutional level changes this may be as good as it gets for the time being, but I wouldn’t lose sleep if CPJ retires tomorrow.

This is one of our best OL's under CPJ. We have two guys who might see a NFL roster in Devine and Braun. We also have a B-back who is 5'9" and smallish QB who can only lob the football. I get what you are saying traditionally about CPJ's offensive lines; but that isn't the real problem this year.

When gtzulu starts arguing that the offense ran off a bunch of clock in the game yesterday; you know he has gone full retart in white knighting the offense. The clock killing drives have been really rare this year and there were none against Duke.

Every OL we have sucks in pass protection. No way that gets you to the NFL. Devine in particular is very slow when he pulls on running plays.

So if my cypherin's are correct, if the offense scored 40 points we still lose the game right?

If we score 40 they would not have scored 40, so no we don’t lose.

This game was lost on the final drive of the first half when we allowed them to ram it down our throats with ease.

We should be able to have a bad day coaching-wise and still beat Duke by a score or two.

We should be able to run it down Duke's throat, not have to out-scheme them. We certainly shouldn't allow scores on 89% or w/e of the drives. This is the equivalent of U Ga losing to Vandy, except they haven't done it 3 out of the last four years. This great "equalizer" system is getting shut down way too easily and it's clearly a detriment to the other phases of the game as well.

The only hope I see is Kenny Cooper and that is because he is a sophomore and has been pretty solid

We are broken and have a hard headed coach who will not make a change because, dammit, he decided that TaQuan was the best QB on the team and he is gonna prove it if we have to have nothing but 3 and outs all game long next Saturday.
I think you forget how much CPJ hates UGA.

I dunno man, go look at the first or second offensive play we had against VT and pay attention to our offensive line. It really stood out to me. We had a few similar against Wake. Basically the entire line belly flopped and exactly Zero defensive linemen were cut or blocked. This has stood out throughout the season with the exception of the Tennessee game. I think Paul sells himself a little short and assumes he can’t do better and he may be settling. Or maybe he’s out there trying to get these beasts and they don’t wanna have anything to do with his scheme. No one knows but those on the inside. But it is super frustrating as a passionate fan without any control.

Damn, forgot about Renfree..

IMO, we would have beaten UGAg in 2008-09 with the talent we had and Chan. We were loaded with talent, especially on defense. Tenuta would have turned up the wick. Dwyer was a hoss.
Wake 2006 convinces me that Gailey would have found a way to lose to UGA in 2008 despite the talent.

We run through their defense in the first drive by simply handing the ball to Choice. Which of course leads to Choice barely being given the ball the rest of the game.

If it's so easy to "run it down Duke's throats," how did Miami have five punts and an interception? Duke's defense isn't great, but it's not like they're an FCS team.

Their offense has been the real bad part of their team this year. You guys keep saying two three-and-outs, but make one of those drives a touchdown and the result probably doesn't change.

If you say make both of those drives a touchdown, then you're requiring the offense to score TD's on 5 out of its 6 drives in first three quarters. That would be good, but it's actually tough to always put together a drive with no mistakes. Hence why Miami had five punts.
