We got out-coached today

Wake 2006 convinces me that Gailey would have found a way to lose to UGA in 2008 despite the talent.

We run through their defense in the first drive by simply handing the ball to Choice. Which of course leads to Choice barely being given the ball the rest of the game.

Wake 2006 was the ACC championship, you know. It wasn't 1-11 Wake

If it's so easy to "run it down Duke's throats," how did Miami have five punts and an interception? Duke's defense isn't great, but it's not like they're an FCS team.

Their offense has been the real bad part of their team this year. You guys keep saying two three-and-outs, but make one of those drives a touchdown and the result probably doesn't change.

If you say make both of those drives a touchdown, then you're requiring the offense to score TD's on 5 out of its 6 drives in first three quarters. That would be good, but it's actually tough to always put together a drive with no mistakes. Hence why Miami had five punts.
It's Duke....

We've scored more points this season against every team we played except Clemson than we did against Duke. It was our second lowest point production. Only two teams in the ACC scored fewer points against Duke than us, FSU and UNC; both of which scored 17; both of which have horrible offenses this year. We had more 3 and outs on offense than we had first downs in the second half. We had 83 total yards of offense in the second half and 67 of that came on one play. I don't expect the offense to be perfect and score every drive; but I do expect more than 2 first downs in a half.

The defense played like total crap the whole game; but the offense didn't win any prizes either. Even with bad scheming by Roof, the defense should have looked better than that. We needed that win to become bowl eligible; it just didn't look like the team wanted it on either side of the ball. We've had some good defensive performances this year, we've had some good offensive performances at times; in the second half against Duke we got neither. Some of it may have been play calling; I think a bigger part of it was lack of heart. Poor attitude is contagious and against Duke we had an epidemic.

OTOH, VPI and Pitt scored only four more points. Miami scored 11 more points. I think all of the teams got the ball more times too. Not because of GT running down the clock, but because of *Duke* running down the clock on offense. Their offense stayed out there instead of punting.

It wasn't a great offensive outing overall by any means. First half was good, 3/4 drives to touchdowns. Then second half went 0/5.

If I had to guess, offense played like overall #50 offense, considering whole game and not just secone half. Defense was like #110. 7 straight drives went for scores. Neither were great, but I'm especially appalled at the defense.

I was out of town and listened on the radio. So for my dis-like for Teddy Roof, did we go into the prevent defense on the second drive of the game? I about died listening to the game, our own guys were trying to make light of the poor defense in the second half. I do not care if Teddy is one of us or not that clown needs to GO. This game was a joke on the D. Yes the O could not do any better, but giving up that many points in the second half was it. Saturday against the Nadlickers is going to be hard for all of us. Yes, Auburn beat UGA, Auburn was better coached that day and wanted it. Saturday is going to be one long day for us.

Ted, this is like your last season with OLeary, several games lost due to D or lack there of.

No. It was mostly lining CBs 8-10 yards off the ball so Duke could complete quick outs and getting gashed on the read option. It's like we didn't watch the tape on how Duke always plays.

Fortunately I don't think the read option is a big part of UGA's offense. Correct me if wrong. They may actually be less dimensional than Duke, which means bad defensive scheme won't hurt us as much.

Here's the Duke-Army game. I skipped around for a minute or two and they lined up on defense pretty much the way we were. Occasionally they would put one corner right up on the receiver but they had the opposite corner and OLB playing well off the LOS.

Big difference I see from two random plays (@28:24, @32:35) is they put like 6 or 7 guys on the line, then drop 2-3 at the snap. Maybe we should've tried that instead of sitting back in the middle

They took risks to pressure Duke, we didn't

Third random play (@ 53:37) and they don't have 6-7 guys on the line, but they are pressing the receivers

We never did that to my memory. We sat back, Army didn't

Edit: Watching some more plays, Army did play similar to us defensively on a lot of plays. I still feel like they took more chances & mixed things up more. They seemed to play with more intensity too, seem faster sideline to sideline

Army beat Duke? How's that possible?

Don't you guys know that all sports mysteries are resolved by the ineffable concept of 'talent'?

I group myself in with the mental midgets on this board — and in the Edge Center — who just can't figure out why sometimes we win and sometimes we lose.
