i love 'em both. Al had such a distinctive voice and phrasing. He got confused a bit and i think was better as a basketball play-by-play than football. As a kid most tech games would tip off at 8. I'd go to bed early to listen to al call the game. I could envision the dome and with al's call it was so much fun. Kaiser, craddock, wagner, and powell became boyhood heroes. I loved some of the basketball phrases:
"tossing in the range finders" (warming up)
"the bunny is up and in" (layup)
"a lot of iron, but good" (free throw that goes in after catching a lot of rim)
"brothers and sisters, we've got a thriller brewing" (close game coming down
toward the end)
wes is more polished than al. He is a really good voice of the jackets. But, al was so distinctive in style. And, he was a truly nice guy. I coached al, jr.'s 13-14 year old basketball team and the ciraldo family was great.
