What about Jim Grobe?

I don't think there's any way we could get Grobe. He loves Wake Forest and they will give him anything he wants. He turned AL down cold and rumors had Nebraska calling bu the wasn't interested. If anyone is a lock, I think he's a lock to stay at Wake.
I'm surprised more coaches aren't like Grobe. I guess it's the nature of the job for guys to think "my style can work anywhere" and then go try to prove it at the next stop.

Somebody like Greg Schiano would be stupid to move. Rutgers has plenty of $$$, a decent recruiting base (if he can continue to keep 'em close), a conference that is reasonably easy to compete in (although if Cincy, UConn, and USF and the bottom feeders continue to improve that could change) and the fanbase expectations were nil before him.

Are u serious?? Please tell me that u are, and that u are legit. That would make my year if we could land Norm Chow, I think I just felt..nevermind. Who cares, just the thought of the fact that there is a slight possibility that he is even the slightest bit interested would make my year.

Just so u know, I'm a HUGE Norm Chow guy. Offensive GENIUS!

I'm serious that he will be mentioned. Not sure how high a priority or if he will be interested.

Demjackets, why not Chow? He's a Fridge but in much better health. I'd love the hire just as I would ahve loved the Fridge.

BTW, I think Fridge might leave MD for GT as the program seems stagnant there but I assume his health will cause him to retire soon.

I do like genius coaches and Chow and Fridge both seem to be.

I'll guess Jimbo is on the short list and is very moveable right now for any HC job but especially the GT one. Otherwise, I'm guessing maybe Tiller at Purdue or Charlie Strong. I'd be shocked based on DRad's leadership style and with Hewitt leading the BCA if GT did not strongly consider an African American and Strong would seem to be the most likely candidate.

Do you agree a minority will have a great chance at being hired as the next head coach at GT? BTW, Chow is considered a minority.

I'm not saying we wont look at Chow I just don't know how much of a priority he would be or if he would be interested, he will probably atleast be in contact. A minority might be a possibility. A couple of the guys Stick mentioned might be considered as well.

If there is a coaching change, we (the fans) need to be prepared to lose most (if not all) of the current coaching staff. The incoming HC should be given the autonomy to make his own decisions - if not, then it's a marriage doomed to failure anyway.

One exception - if the incoming HC is from the present staff.

Yup. If Tenuta doesn't get the offer then we lose our recruiting coordinators. That's the essence of the conundrum. You can't just say "Tenuta vs Grobe" or whatever. You have to look at the total package. Compare this:

Option 1) Tenuta and all our existing defensive and ST staff who already have a good report with our incoming recruits and existing players, for cheap.

..with..

Option 2) Grobe (or whoever) and all his staff, including all the growing pains of a major coaching change, for more money.

I don't think Tenuta is the best coach we could get, but I do think he's the best total package and overall best for the program.

I would really like to keep Giff Smith around. I think that he will make a good HC someday.

Does anyone really think Grobe would leave Wake for GT after turning down Alabama and (supposedly) Nebraska?

That's what Saban said too.

That's what they always say.

Except Grobe isn't a liar.

Plus why would he come to Tech? He could have had all the money he wanted by now if that's what he was after. He's already won an ACCCG at Wake and is in the hunt for another, his recruiting is picking up and the administration there will do whatever he wants. What would Tech give him that would be an improvement?

If Grobe performed here as he has at WF in his first 6 years, he would have long since been run out of town by our fans...Mike

True, but when he took over, had his team routinely been in the top 25 under the prior coach?

No, but neither did Grobe have 10 scholarship players (signed by his predecessor) flunk out, did he?

Here is Grobe's record in his first 6 years:

2-9, 6-5, 7-6, 5-7, 4-7. 4-7

If you think the whining is bad now, how do you think it would be in year five or six into that record? I can almost hear BOR and Geetee calling for his head already. ;)

The grass is always greener....until you get there...Mike

He has been there two more seasons than Chan. Next year is the year for Chan, right?

Re: So long as we are throwing out names...Houston Nutt?

If not Nutt......I think Frank Broyles is about to be unemployed. Maybe he'd be a good fit.

I think your making some huge assumptions here. If Tenuta got the job there is no guarantee he wouldn't want to bring in his own people, and there's no guarantee that the people currently here would want to work for him. Tenuta might decide to clean house and start over again with the exception of just a few people.

I have to believe that with as much autonomy as Tenuta gets with the D, he's been pretty instrumental in picking the D position coaches. I also have to believe that he likes the job our recruiting guys are doing.
