Kentucky has the only memorial to Union soldiers killed during the Civil War to be erected south of the Ohio River. It's located in Vanceburg and pays tribute to 107 local boys who gave their lives fighting for the North.

And what goes better with a cheeseburger than a Pepsi? Pikeville, KY leads the nation in per-capita Pepsi consumption.

The Hatfields and McCoys were real families who carried on a real feud for a quarter century after the Civil War. While Devil Anse and co. were West Virginia boys, the McCoys were all from Pike County.

More than half of all U.S. troops killed in the War of 1812 were Kentuckians.

5. Carpet Munching

Vintage Chicadee
A 50 year old man was caught red handed actually eating carpet lint at Louisville’s Burlington Coat Factory in May 2013. Apparently smoking crystal meth causes carpet cravings, as he admitted to using it before getting his lunch craving.

2. What a Gas

Riverfront Times
A man in Jenkins needed gas, and the closest way to get it was a police vehicle. Thus, in April 2012, Michael Baker siphoned gas from an officer’s car. He was so proud of his stealthy actions, he posted images of the entire incident on Facebook. Needless to say he was arrested.

Paul “Bear” Bryant became a coaching legend during his years at Texas A&M and decades at Alabama, but he received his first SEC head coaching job at the University of Kentucky in 1946. He coached at UK through 1953 before departing for A&M, and in eight seasons as head coach his teams posted a record of 60-23-6 (.674 win percentage) and won the 1950 SEC championship with an 11-1 record.
