I'm sure this thread has been created many times before, but who cares??

What is your favorite memory of GT Football?

GT/Nebraska at the citrus bowl...

did not think so at the toime, but in retrospect may be only game I attend that has NC implications. Thought at the time we would leverage that, as most programs do, into ongoing success. 3 years later we are 1-10!

For "in person" moments only:

1) Beating Nebraska for Natl Champ in 1990
2) OT win against UGA in 1999.
3) Watkins game winning catch at Clemson 2000
4) Beating Mich. St. in AA Bowl 1985
5) Beating ND in Gator Bowl (Jan. 1, 1999)

All of these
  • 1985 vs uga: Gary Lee and Ted Roof in the fog at HGF.
  • '90 at uva
  • '91 Citrus
  • '98 at uga
  • '98 vs uva: The big comeback. Tried to leave at half but wife wouldn't allow it
  • '80 vs ND
  • '81 at Alabama
  • '78 at Auburn
The worst by far: '78 in Athens. However, that afternoon cemented my deep hatred of them for life. So, that's not so bad.

1) 1953 Sugar Bowl (just kidding --not that old!)

- - - - -

1) 1991 Citrus Bowl over Nebraska 45-21 --to win the national championship.
2) 1984 over UGA 35-18 --sitting in club level at Sanford Stadium as GT rolled.
3) 1990 over UVA 41-38 --without it --well-- #2 would be #1 on this list.
4) 2000 over UGA 27-15 --three-in-a-row over the Dawgs ('98: 21-19 win to end the seven-year drought deserves equal mention too).
5) 2003 over Auburn 17-3 --also my wedding day.
6) 1985 over UGA 20-16 --for two-in-a-row over UGA --still remember that goal-line stand before the half (it was like there were 13 Jackets on the field ).
7) 1991 UVA 24-21 --first home game after winning the national championship --just an awesome feeling walking into BDS that night.
8) 1999 Gator Bowl over Notre Dame 35-28 --great defeating the Irish in a New Year's Day bowl --much better than the 3-3 tie of '80.
9) 1981 over Alabama 24-21 --rest of the season was abysmal but that first game was awesome.
10) 1985 Hall of Fame Bowl over Michigan State 17-14 --capped the first really good season for GT during my lifetime that I can actually recall now (I was only 1 in '66) --plus GT went to 3-0 lifetime against the Spartans --settling once and for all who was the real national champ of 1952 --which takes us back to the top of this list and the '53 Sugar Bowl...

2004 vs. Clemson and swimming in the fountain afterwards.

1974 - UGA Mud Bowl in Athens, cold, rain, Ice, we won, took my 12 year old brother to that game, he was the only sober GT Fan in the stands.
1980 - ND, dead fish on HGF
1984 - No one ever ran like Gary Lee, Dawgs loose
1990 - beating the boys in blue shirts, UVA 41-38
2003 - Auburn at HGF, dedicated new Fraternity House, drank, ate, watched the War Eagles bomb.
Really that was the last good game at HGF.

Wow, it was cold. It was about 34 degrees and raining. 5 degrees colder with snow or sleet would have been better. The win was worth sitting in the weather.

Favorite TV game: UVa 1990. No game could be better than that one for excitement.

Favorite in person: Gary Lee running out of the fog to beat Georgie.

In Athens I think that was one of the few times the Dawg Nation left the stadium early, bod did those guys hate Pepper.

The Fog Bowl was a great game, my Christmas card that year was the "Night Before Christmas" poem re-written about the game. Dawg fans have no sense of cultural writing or humor.

Dez vs UVA in 98 was good.

Watkins vs Clemson in 98 was good.

Recovering our own blocked FG in OT vs UGA in 99, but being able to rekick it because we tried it on 3rd down, and rekicking it for the win, was pretty damn good.

But the best one I think has got to be Goose Godsey, the big slow white dude, running the triple motion option reverse for a 40 yard score in 2000 because every single one of UGA's future NFL linebackers were so focused on the strong side of that play that they were completely out of position when we sprung it on them.

Does anyone have a video of that play?

1990 UVA game
1990 Nat'l Championship
1998 Notre Dame in Gator Bowl

2002 UGA... Wait, how did that get in there? That was awful!!!

Man, did I enjoy Calvin's break out party in Clemson, SC (2004)

In person:
1990 Citrus Bowl and NC
Tech-UGA and Godsey catching the blocked kick
Tech-UVA, Dez
Tech-ND, 3-3

TV: Kerry Watkins and CU
Johnson and CU
Tech beat MSU without Dewberry

That must have been awesome. They did leave early in '84 too --right after Vince elected to let Butler kick a FG to cut Tech's lead to 35-9.

Not only did Dawg Nation leave early --they booed on their way out.

Going to the Citrus Bowl
GT-UVA 90
GT-UGA 84
GT-UGA 85
GT-UMd last year (Sorry ending the game with two sacks at goal line is AWESOME!!)

GT vs Nebraska in 1990

Watching Rocket Ismail run back the punt that should have beaten Colorado once and for all. For about 10 seconds, there was no question who the National Champion was in 1990 if you were watching that game. My Dad and I jumped through a plate glass table we were so excited.

NCST 1992- Shawn Jones hail mary pass to win as time expired.

UVA 1998 coming back from 24 points down to win 41-38 (sound familiar) and then rushing the field. Got my picture with Dez.

UGA 1998, breaking the streak and not being able to watch it. I got so sick to my stomach that I had to go out to the concessions stand and smoke a lucky cigarette and hide my eyes. Then I heard the UGA cheers go to boos and then silence, and I knew he had done it. I ran back in to my seats to watch Tech storm the field.

UGA 1999, What a game, but the question mark fumble by Sanks left me a little peeved. We were kicking their ass so bad that Quincy Carter needed two very key and seriously questionable pass interference calls to even keep their drives alive. I honestly think the fumble call by the officials was in an effort to make things right for their slanted bullsh!t calls in the 4th quarter that helped UGA. That game should never be questioned by UGA fans and it pisses me off that they do.

Those are my fondest memories.

GT 6 SMU 4 back in the 50's. A classic game put together by BD. Two safeties and one TD best defensive game ever played.

The 1969 and 1970 games.... in 1969, the 6-0 score Dooley's first shutout and our first time to beat him.... and 1970's 17-7 "Between The Weeds"... nuff said

This has to be my favorite. Was my freshman year, was quite a bit inebriated, and was hanging on a goalpost as it was coming down...
