What is your best GT Football memory?

@ Clemson in '04
AU@GT in '03, got a piece of the goalpost on my mantle
@VT '06 was pretty nice
and while it doesn't mean too much @ND '07 will always be a special memory, not too many times you get to beat ND in south bend

All of these are about on equal planes for varying reasons.

My first game in 1991 I remember vividly sitting in the east stands in the very south and no one was there but it was my first college ballgame and tech game. Later that night we went to the World Series to watch the Braves which only made the day more memorable.

1998 - I think everyone loves this game, I loved it because we sat with my neighbor whose dad was a UGA grad and both were diehards. We even sat in their west stands where Chambers hit the kick.

1999 - I love this game because it showed how dawgs get greedy and their lack of intelligence cost them the game. Our old seats were right on the 5 in the east stands so we were right on that play. I think that game is what clinched my decision to go to Tech later in life.

2003 Auburn - What an awesome game, was still sitting in the student section at that time and I think christening the new stadium with a win like that and getting to storm the field is just about as storybook as it gets.

Various away games - Miami 2005 because we sat in "the U" section and some cubans next to us threatened to cut my buddy with his knife and someone threw a cigarette on me burning a good sized hole in my shirt. Nothing like the OB. VT 2006, taking Beemer ball to the Hokies in their own stadium.

Favorite game I didn't go to: Klimpzen 2004 because after Calvin made that catch after the muffed punt I was so drunk I was doing goal line dives over the wall/bushes in front of the fraternity for about an hour much to my chagrin for the next week.

I know this isnt part of the question but the worst feeling in my GT football watching career is a tie between witnessing that 51-7 thrashing in 2002 and losing to FSU after being up the whole game until late in the 4th in 2003.

Agreed, the first one was all the fuel my hatred for those inbred mutts will ever need and the second just made me sick to my stomach

My first GT football game in my life, and the first game my freshman year. We beat Auburn 17-3 and tore down the goal posts.

Blessed with great memories? Oh yes... despite the up and down mediocrity of our program.

The worst gameday experience of mine is 1992 against FSU. We had the game in the bag up by nine points with 2 minutes on the clock and lost.

1997 UGA was a killer. The most upset I've been at a GT football game.

2002 UGA 51-7 loss was just flat out embaressing. If you didn't go to that game you have no idea. I made a vow that I would not set foot in Sanford Stadium until either Gailey proved he could beat them or Gailey stopped coaching.

Only those games I was present at:

1. EVERY win over ugag at home.
2. Late in the first half at against one of the academies when Pepper alternated 1st & 2nd string offense all the way down the field for a touchdown.
3. Homecoming touchdown catch by Jimmy Robinson.
4. The fight at the end of the ugag game started by Ryan Stewart.
5. Missing the field goal on third down and making it on forth down to beat ugag!

Common thread here, BEAT UGAG!!!

Mine was as a young lad back in 1962 listening to the radio broadcast of Tech beating then number 1 Alabama 7 to 6. I can't remember if it was Al Ciraldo or Jack Hurst doing the play by play but man was it exciting. I was 13 years old at the time.

I have witnessed many since then including being at the 1974 UGA game in Athens with my brother sitting in the driving rain as the Pepper Rogers wishbone attack absolutely destroyed the Dawgs.

The 1990 UVA game was a game for the ages which I have on tape and watch at least a couple of times each year.

Those are a few of my favorite memories.

Go Jackets!

September 19, 1964 - GT 14, Vanderbilt 2

Age 6 - my first game at BDS. My dad took me and although I don't remember exactly where we sat it was in the upper south east stands. I just had a blast.

Been a GT fan ever since.

1) 1998 in Athens...RIPPING THE HEDGES!! I still have one. Being a starter on that defense that didn't allow a 1st down in the 4th quarter which allowed Joe Ham & Co. time to mount a come back... Also tackling quincy on the 2 point conversion, everyone 4gets that if he made that, it would have been a 21-21 tie....

2)1998 UVA...we gave up a ton of yards and points but sacking aaron brooks at the end and putting them out of field goal range was a tremendous feeling

3) ND- Gator Bowl 1999
we got 10 wins, finished in the top 10 and I ended my collegiate career by sacking jarious jackson and forcing a fumble on my final play as a Yellow Jacket

I would have to say 1984. It was the only GT win that was totally unexpected and we just beat the heck out of them. GT football from 79-82 was just pitiful, as bad a program as there was in the country. so, to come oh so close in 1983 and have our heart ripped out hurt so bad for a young teenager who really couldn't remember a GT win that well in the series.

I was at the 29-28 loss in Athens whcih is really my first memory. Then I was there in 80 when they hit an 80 yarder on the first play and Vicne kept running up the score.

Anyway, in 84, it was a lot like this year. We had some awesome wins over Clemson, Alabama, etc. but Ugag was a top 5 program and we were not expected to win by anybody. dewberry, Malcolm King, the Refrgi Mover, etc. played the best game they had ever played and we killed the Dawgs.

1990 in Orlando was usrreal because GT felt like a nationla football power killing NEB in Orlando with a youn team. I assumed we would build on that but in retrospect it was very artificial.

That must have been awesome. They did leave early in '84 too --right after Vince elected to let Butler kick a FG to cut Tech's lead to 35-9.

Not only did Dawg Nation leave early --they booed on their way out.

I really miss those days with split officiating crews.

BeeKeeper began posting at 6:02am and stopped 16 posts later at 6:52am --guess the Waffle House had a slow morning and got busy around 7:00am.

It is more likely that the short yellow bus stopped to take him to school.

:laugher::laugher:

Citrus Bowl -- Jan 1, 1991, IIRC.

Watching us beat up on Nebraska for a share of the national title, and leaving the stadium with an entire goal post are highlights.

In person:

Jan 1, 1991 Citrus Bowl vs Nebraska
1998 at uga
2000 at clemson
1999 vs uga
1989 vs uga (Jerry Mays ran wild)
1998 vs uva (41-38 II)
Jan 1, 1999 Gator Bowl vs ND
2003 vs auburn
2005 at auburn
2000 at uga
1990 vs clemson

All of mine have been named already, but I have to admit.....

......I can't honestly say the '80 3-3 tie with the Domers was one of those memories.

To be honest, I remember very little of that glorious day (or that entire Fall quarter, come to think of it )

I can honestly say that I did expect GT to win that game. I was at the '83 game and that one did hurt --but with the Bama win, that Clemson game and the memory of coming close in the '83 game I really felt like a GT would pull out a win. Now I had no idea the Jackets would just rip the Dawgs apart like they did.

On my top 10 list the Citrus Bowl victory is rightfully placed at #1 for me --but honestly, I never had more fun at a game than I had sitting in Sanford Stadium club level and high-fiving my best friend (and fellow GT fan) for three + hours --much to the dismay of the friend who had the club tickets (UGA fan) and those sitting around us.

An awesome day and one I will never forget!

1) 1999 vs. UGAg - I was only in 7th grade but this was the first game that I remember almost all of and there's not one better. I nearly busted my face on a wall running and jumping when we won.
2) 2004 vs. Clemson - I remember laying back on my bed and feeling horrible, thinking that we were going to have a really bad year. But when Clemson failed to convert their third down, I knew that we had a shot but I couldn't have dreamed it better than it actually came. I've never screamed so loud that it woke up neighbors, but I did that night.
3) 2003 vs. Auburn - This was my first game as a season's ticket holder and the whole day was sort of surreal, but I had this underlying feeling that we were in trouble. That was all relieved when Reggie hit Curry downtown for a huge gain. An amazing way to christen the new BDS and for me to kick off my life as a seasons ticket holder.
4) 2003 vs. Maryland - It was an awesome defensive game and the crazy fumble play that we recovered made this one of the more fun games I've attended.

Worst?

1) 04 vs. UGAg - The first Tech-UGAg game I attended away from Grant Field. It was soaking wet in the nosebleeds and absolutely freezing. I was sure that we had a chance to pull off a great comeback just like we did against Clemson. I've never had such a mingled feeling of fury and heartbreak as when we blew our final two downs and the game slipped away.
2) 03 vs. F$U - I was pumped for this game. After the Auburn win I was euphoric and thought we were set for a special season and the team seemed to agree with me until the last couple of minutes of the game. What a horrible way to end the continuity of the series.

'04 @ Clemson....."and the legend is born!!"

Wes Durham's call was awesome
