What is your best GT Football memory?

Mine was as a young lad back in 1962 listening to the radio broadcast of Tech beating then number 1 Alabama 7 to 6. I can't remember if it was Al Ciraldo or Jack Hurst doing the play by play but man was it exciting. I was 13 years old at the time.

I have witnessed many since then including being at the 1974 UGA game in Athens with my brother sitting in the driving rain as the Pepper Rogers wishbone attack absolutely destroyed the Dawgs.

The 1990 UVA game was a game for the ages which I have on tape and watch at least a couple of times each year.

Those are a few of my favorite memories.

Go Jackets!
Hate to rain on your parade. Ahem, I was there in 1962. Don Toner intercepted Joe Namath's pass in the end zone right in front of me. Great game as you said.

When we were voted UPI Champion in 1990. I knew it was going to be close because there was a love affair with McCartney (Colo. coach).

I thought, to myself, WOW GT has truly turned it around from the depths of the 1980.

I had been an SA from 1984-87 and felt I had a piece in the NC. I had gone out on a limb and signed with GT in the Spring of 1983 primarily because of the new tennis coach. Had decided against UF. I was one of his first two biggest recruits he had signed. In 1983 the GT tennis team was the worst in the history of the ACC (to this day). The year after I had graduated (1988) we won the regular season ACC in men's tennis and were top 10. I felt I had a significant hand in that turnaround.

I had seen Blackmon do the same in golf. Cremins in basketball. Morris in baseball.

But the crowning jewel was Ross in football. Espeically so, IMO, after BC left us to go to Bammer in order to have a chance to, "win a NC".

Once we were voted #1 my stunned Brother-in-law (a former UGA SA) congratulated me. I told him it was no big deal!

My new favorite GT memory will be when UGA hangs 50 on you in your house THIS year.....

Go back to repairing my toilet or you're FIRED!!!

Geez, you can't get a good plumber these days! Frickin' lazy SOB. Surfing the internet while on the job...

My best memory of Grant Field wasn't even during a football game. It came late one night, in the middle of the GT at the 50 yard line. Astroturf burns, a badge of honor.

1974 game in Athens, I had to have my dad in front of me and my uncle in back of me when we left, I had pissed off so many Dawg people, one guy came down to beat me up and I held him off with an umbrella. Wet, drunk and happy.

I have a baggie of hegdes in my sock drawer from that game!

I have many favorite memories, but here are three
a) 1962 Tech 7, Bama 6. 11 years old in the North Stands--still the loudest game I have ever been to.

b) 1990 Citrus Bowl.. surreal and the most dominating performance of any Tech team against a good team that I ever witnessed. There was never a feeling that the outcome was in doubt, even when Nebraska scored quickly before halftime.

c) 1969 Tech 6-0 Georgia 0. Had been trounced the year before 47-8. Rock Perdoni, Smylie Gebhart and the rest of the defense just refused to lose.

Dez vs UVA in 98 was good.

Watkins vs Clemson in 98 was good.

Recovering our own blocked FG in OT vs UGA in 99, but being able to rekick it because we tried it on 3rd down, and rekicking it for the win, was pretty damn good.

But the best one I think has got to be Goose Godsey, the big slow white dude, running the triple motion option reverse for a 40 yard score in 2000 because every single one of UGA's future NFL linebackers were so focused on the strong side of that play that they were completely out of position when we sprung it on them.

Does anyone have a video of that play?

Yes, and Yes, the Goose was Loose!! I'd love to see a video of that play too!

the only thing a mutt has ever hung in my house is wallpaper.

Don't forget drywall. They do a great job with drywall.

My sister went to Wake Forest and then went to MCG (Medical College of Georgia). She had 2 UGA grads for partners in her anatomy lab. I asked her how that was working out and she said,"Well, they are really good at moving the cadavers around."

I think the scariest thing in the world is knowing the hoards of people I went to high school with who went to UGAg are now high school teachers...no wonder Georgia has such a bad school system, its idiots teaching the children of the previous UGA generation. On the other hand you could be like my girlfriend's ex-roomate who had a 3.6 in childhood education and was rejected for certification to teach. They really do have tough standards out there in Athens.

(I reiterate my hatred for UGA nearly everyday to my UGA grad girlfriend of 4 years. Additionally I ceremoniously break up with her for the entire week before the game as a sign of my solidarity - I guess thats why we aren't married yet.)

Hehe.

I may have told this story on Stingtalk already, but it's really too good to only tell once. In grad school, I needed a book from the UGA library to do some Masters research. There were misspelled words on their interlibrary loan forms.

It's not just their students that are dumb. The freakin librarians can't even spell.

In 1962 Tech beating Alabama 7 to 6 when they were undefeated, ranked #1, and had Joe Namath
as quarterback.
Still have my Tech necktie ( yes we dressed up back then) with #1 written on it after the game by
one of my drinking buddies.

Beating VTHUG in Blacksburg last year while siting next to four of my friends all VTHUG fans and hearing in the car how they where going to kick our ass again just like the year before the entire 2 hour drive from Charlottesville.:laugher:

Two memories come to mind:

1- In miami for the win in '05. My GF (now wife) bought me plane/game tickets for my birthday. The game was delayed a few weeks due to a hurricane. We have to jump through hoops to get new plane tickets... still make it down there and win. Whatever knocks people have on the OB, you could DRINK BEER in the game. Just awesome.

2- 98' GT-UVA. It is homecoming, my 19th birthday (Oct. 17th 1998), freshman year. UVA was ranked 6th. Come back from 21 down in the 4th quarter. Tear down the goal posts. March them out of the stadium and throw them in the fountain. Proceeded to have GREAT night. Oh to be young again...

200O GT over UGA 27-15, 1999 GT 51-48 over UGA in OT are the first two in person moments.

23-14 over Auburn in 2005 was really fun in person. The wins over the Doggies are the best thogh without question.

Sept 27, 1997 - watching Brad Chambers hit the game winning FG to beat Clemson 23-20.

It was the first home game my freshman year and the post-game partying was a welcome introduction to college. It wasn't the biggest win GT had while I was in school but it was the first of many great games I attended. Looking back it stands out in my mind as an omen of what the remaining 4 years of school had in store.

Watching Gary Lee run back that kick for 6 against UGAg in 1985 in the fog is probably my favorite single moment.

Favorite game would have to be the Citrus Bowl romp over Nebraska. Nothing like winning a MNC to start the year off right.
