Who are we hiring for HC next year?

Johnson said he didn’t consider going back to Oliver. A questioner noted that Oliver seemed to have a rhythm.

“Well, that’s your opinion,” Johnson said. “If you get to be the coach next year, put him in.”

I’m tired of ööööing Paul Johnson and this stupid ass offense. I’m ready for a spread offense and at least being able to get 3 or 4 4* players a year. I’m tired of being humiliated on national television by shitty teams, watching the like of Duke get better and better each year. We are bottom feeders in the ACC and if you can’t admit it, you got problems.

The team simply doesn't have the fire in its belly. The hunger isn't there. It isn't like it was just bad luck or a bunch of scrubs getting waxed. GT has an All-American punter. He shanked one for about 10 yards almost into the stands. GT has an All-ACC guard. He tried to block his own MOFO tackle (who, incidentally, was actually blocking somebody), leaving a USF player to come untouched from the blind side and blow Marshall out of the water. Those aren't lapses in ability or bad luck. That's people capable of doing the job being mentally checked out of doing it properly and thoroughly and aggressively.

I believe in the spread option if it exists in a vacuum. The growing mountain of evidence suggests that when you bring in the spread option you kneecap your recruiting, your ability to schedule, your selection of defensive assistants, and your appeal to sidewalk fans. It's kinda like politics ... in recruiting, from staff to players, perception IS reality. Outside perception has always been unwavering in its negativity. Paul's brusque demeanor, while kindred to us somewhat reclusive engineering types, only serves to entrench the outside perspective. In keeping with the political analogy ... you might as well be an economist trying to sell free markets and free trade. You're right, you're absolutely right. There's a mountain of evidence supporting the effectiveness of your theory. There is, however, no receptive audience to be found for the message.

That being said ... if PJ is to be shown the door it better damn well be because there's already a comprehensive and effective strategy to replace him. I don't want to see any Bobinski-esk "Fire the guy you just recently extended and then scramble after you get a bunch of nos." And part and parcel of the hire has to be a complete and total soup to nuts recruiting overhaul. Because the need to get new and fresh and different blood will be immense. I'm talking about tapping out the scholarship limit in the first couple of classes if you can get the right people.

Send 6m offer to Gary Patterson. If he says no fire some staff from academic areas and offer 8m

The budgets just don't work like that. The AA is it's own entity for the most part. It does get fees from the academic side from students and I think grad students as well but that is it.

I knew it would never happen when I posted.

Dumb take

Butch Jones would recruit better here than CPJ is and someone we could afford/keep.

So there is no coach that can do better at GT than CPJ?

I don't care if we keep a coach. I want one that can win. If that makes us a 3 yr stop for someone but they make us a winner, I'm in on it.

But go ahead and aim low... loser.

I don’t think we fire CPJ this year and maybe even next year unless we have another bad season. If we were to fire him though and go with a non-option offensive coach, he wouldn’t have it too bad.

Yes, the talent wouldn’t really be here for him now but he’d have a competent DC already in place and at least 3 years to build a team with his players without much pressure. I think that would be a pretty good situation if our AD and president worked to promise a slight relaxation with recruiting and a significant buyout contract.

Quinlan seems to believe that CPJ would step down at the end of the year if we have a other 5 or 6 win season
