I’m wondering if Chadwell was a done deal, but he came across StingTalk and changed his mind. Wow.

In all of this don't forget that we need someone on the cheap, who will not demand hugh buyouts.

Where are you hearing it from?
As I originally said, it was not confirmed; I was only repeating what I heard and with that disclaimer. I heard it from a regular poster on this site who saw it (the Chadwell withdrawal) on another site, where it was posted by someone who CLAIMED he knows a member of the AA. I checked that other site, and that is indeed what the guy posted. I have no idea whether he knew what he was talking about or not, but it sure seems to be making more and more sense to me. The news about Fritz was primarily, I gather, from Ken's article last night, although someone else told me that before I saw the article. I wanted (want) Key, but I would have been fine with hiring Chadwell. I do not want BOB or Fritz though. I have no idea who the big money guys on the AA want, but it would appear that it is neither Chadwell or Key. I for one am sick of those big money guys trying to run everything, because they are ruining things by their interference.

See this is the issue. This creates a perception that there are multiple corroborating sources when in fact it is a bunch of people all quoting the same rumor.

Those in the know are saying that Batt is keeping everything very secretive. So anything else being reported, other than Batt has interviewed 4 candidates, is just unsubstantiated rumor at this point.

I totally agree with that, and that is why I always try to include the word "unconfirmed" and sometimes "unconfirmed rumor". But I don't see any reason not to pass along those rumors, since most people are hearing them.

This is a QUOTE from something else I just now read that was posted this morning. If what has been said over the past 12+ hours proves to be true, then I totally agree with this person's sentiment, and I would hope that we all do ---

"My info is second hand from the 'old boys club' donor side. There's two sides to every story and this is certainly biased.

But what I heard back on Wednesday was that Batt was set on Chadwell and worked out a tentative agreement with him/his agent. However, the GTAA is in extreme financial trouble. Especially after the buyout and poor ticket sales this season both in FB and MBB. In order to afford any coach, Batt needs donor commitments. Cabrera wants to help, but he's legally handcuffed on what he can directly do financially.

Anyway, certain major donor(s) who were inside the search recused themselves from the process over disagreements with Batt. Others were told to stay out of it and were/are playing power struggle games with Batt. Batt told them who's the boss now and to stay out of things unless asked, Bama-style. So, they are keeping their money out of it, but not their opinions.

After the Pitt game, Batt was in an untenable position. The donors were not ready to open their checkbooks for Chadwell without at least giving Key a fair shot - a real interview, seeing how the GA game played out. Chadwell and his agent were rightfully miffed that Batt was stringing them along and couldn't/wouldn't finalize the deal. It blew up on Batt this week."

There's several things about this that I am skeptical about.

I highly doubt that Batt was on a timeline to make a decision on a coach before the end of the season. Possible, sure, but highly doubtful.

I also doubt that Batt is playing hardball with major donors given that he was brought here in the first place to bring in the money from said donors. He'd be shooting himself in the foot right out of the gate if he did that. The financial realities of the situation were known well before Batt set foot on campus. And presumably the donors were involved in the decision to can Collins and promised money to help make that happen.

I don't hear Chadwell's name being mentioned as a serious contender for any other coaching vacancy. I've looked quite a bit this morning and I see nothing except Georgia Tech. Doesn't sound like he has a lot of leverage to make any sort of demand, and that wouldn't be a very smart move in the first place if you are trying to get someone to give you a life-changing contract.

So, I think there are four options in play, and I think that we will hear that a contract has been offered to one of them by Monday evening.

That sounds on par with what I’ve heard. I’ve heard Batt is a Bama-Style “My Way” guy. I hate to tell him but if he thinks he has financial troubles now, he doesn’t know, hire Fritz or BOB. He will have very poor support and will have alienated 90% of Tech Nation right out of the gate.

If we don't name a coach Monday....then we will be behind the eight ball. Transfer portal opens Dec 5.

From the way the big money guys have screwed us in the past, I would say that JBatt NEEDS to play hardball with them, or he will just become their puppet. As far as a timeline, I would imagine that JBatt created that timeline for himself; nobody else put him on it. That's not to say that he will live or die by that timeline, but I am sure that for the good of the team he would certainly like to. As far as Chadwell's name being on anyone else's list, again I can only repeat UNCONFIRMED reports. Although WVA was initially named as one, later that seems to have been dropped and USF added. If he is still interested in Tech but ends up at USF, that sure doesn't make Tech look good.

I can see this part as possible. Could also see this as the donors shooting themselves in the foot by getting involved when and where they shouldn't. With said financial realities we cannot afford to have the same dysfunctional crap as an Auburn or Texas. From what I understand, outside opinion (with or without money, idk) were a big part of what gave us Collins. Maybe not the same ones as here but after that I want the whole lot of em to donate their money like normal and let people do the job they were hired to do.
Also in particular I could see Batt wanting to put his foot down on this since it's literally the first task of his new job, was the main thing he was hired to do, and is now being told it's not a decision he's really allowed to make? If he bows to it a few months into his job, why would anyone take him seriously? If it's Key the donors want and it's because of them Key his hired, Key would have no reason to listen to Batt on anything. Any disagreement and he can get the donors to change Batts mind.

Wonder if could be someone totally different?? Maybe someone like Josh Gattis (current OC at Miami- but spent time at Alabama while Battman was there, Michigan, and played in the ACC at WF) or Jeff Lebby (OK OC- prior stops at UCF, Ole Miss, and....Baylor). Granted- haven't been HCs, but given our financial situation- we may need to go that route? Do we take a chance on someone like that? Close to same thing with Key, I guess...

The 3 names most mentioned seem to divide a divided fan-base or don't bring a ton of excitement.

I’m about at the point where I just think screw it, just hire Steve Spurrier and be done with it. He’s still likely better than all the others out there and he would probably work for free at Tech just to see UGAg’s collective pucker once more.

No, if he is interested in Tech and ends up at USF that doesn't make HIM look good. What coach would prefer USF over Georgia Tech?
I agree that it makes him look bad. But if the circumstances leading to that decision were because of lack of unity and commitment by the donors, then it definitely makes Tech look not only bad, but totally disorganized and stupid.
