It is CLEAR that per capita this may be the best class ever at GT.

Although I think last year there was some positive strides made toward recruiting, but this year is lights out the best class I ever recall.

Anybody have any ideas why it is so much better. I am not convinced that hiring a couple of guys has mde this much of a difference.

They are really good but also, after Wilson retired/canned there were posts on the other board that he was "the laziest of any employee at the Edge Center".

1-Got rid of dead weight Wilson.Interesting that for 4 yrs we couldn't recruit Ga because of academics.Now...
2-Got in new capable enthusiastic guys.
3-Chan got new contract.
4-take a look at squad- on Offense not that much talent to compete against for play time-the truth ,
and on Def ,can play for great innovative coach and in 08 will have MANY openings
5-uga has so many the competition for playing time is TOUGH
6-Rad's enthusiasm

How do you explain the highly rated projected defensive guys we're bringing in?

One thing that's never mentioned when this topic gets brought up --- GT is now landing guys in the pros that weren't highly rated coming out of high school. What will happen once we start kicking ass in recruiting?

I think it is our AD. Thank god that baffoon Braine is gone, now that he is gone you can see the results.

Actually, I remember after the Braine "10 wins" comment, I thought for sure recruiting would absolutely suck for the next few years. Cutliffe said that if he was recruiting against GT, he would use that Asinine comment. And who knows, maybe he's using it on Cam Baker now.

But I think Gailey and his recruiting staff have successfully shed the image that Braine created. They started with the Miami win only days afterward, and have continued to show recruits that GT is out to win and win big.

The good thing is that Braine actually projected no image to anyone other than disgruntled alumni and fans.
Middle schoolers that become High Schoolers don't sit around wondering what is wrong with Tech.

The correct answer to this very good question is Radokovich first, followed by Giff Smith. Also, Chan Gailey is a master closer at the kitchen table or in his office.

The stuff about this being an academically brilliant crop of Ga. prospects is bunk. Believe what you want, but it's still bunk.

It's been a combination of things. But, the biggest four in my opionion are:

First off, there was a change in how they get and deal with information about recruits. They streamlined it and went after who they wanted quicker and harder as a collective group. I'm not sure of all the details but there is different technical support out there now.

Secondly, if you look at who recruited a lot of these players in GA, you'll find one person. Sure its always more than one, but one person is assigned to really build a relationship with these players. Coach Giff has really made that much impact.

Thirdly, Coach Gailey and some people over there in the Edge Center like Coach Brooks have really built inroads in HS not only in GA but in stratigic pockets throughout the country.

Last but not least, GTAA puts on a great visit for anyone that comes on campus. All I hear from parents is how well organized and "real" the visits are. GT doesn't tell these kids what they want to hear. The kids really get a great picture of what the future would be like not only in football but in the classroom living in Atlanta GA.

Like I said it's a combination of things, but these are four bigges in my mind.

These young men will still be recruited till they sign on the first Wednesday in Feb. I'm really looking forward to that day.

Now, we need to get back to winning football games!!

GO JACKETS!!

Well...Rad has added some punch around the AA...but CG already had Giff Smith move to Recruiting Coordinator, Geoff Collins coming in....in addition to Kelly and Hunter coming in...all prior to Rad coming on board.

I totally disagree. Last year was a step back from the previous 2 years IMO and that's saying something.

I've heard that the academics have softened somewhat and Chan is now going after more 'exceptions' and Rad has something to do with this. This is obviously in addition to all the other reasons already given.

that is the punch. Rad told him CG to worry about recruiting and football and let him worry about the academic folks. This obviously doesn't mean he can take anyone...it is just the borderline kids that should be ok if they have shown continuous progress.

True, but don't discount Rad's being in good favor with Clough.

I see many fonts blaming the problem on Wilson, being lazy, would not get out and recruit etc. But, was he the head man? Would any of the fonts have workers who did not do the job not call them in a say do your job or you're gone? So why was the real problem in recruiting?

I hope these recruits can ignore the potential on-field Gailey/Nix BS, sign in February, and make it to campus in August. I hope none of these kids are potential academic casualties thereby deflating this big ol' balloon of optimism here in the fall of '06.

I doubt any of them are potential academic casualties since Tech does clear everyone as being on track to be admitted before they can get an offer.

The offense that we saw on the field against Notre Dame? I don't know if it could persuade a recruit to reconsider.......I suppose that depends on what Gailey and the staff are telling the recruits face to face about the future.

This is all correct:

But you missed one. Test scores in GA are way up this year.

How much higher? Georgia overall has moved up to 46th in the nation from 49th. While the improvement is admirable and acknowledged, it's hard to believe that the scores are 'way up' without concrete evidence to prove it.

I'd say Tech is getting a far higher percentage of the athletes able to get into Tech, not that Tech has a larger pool of eligible players. The pool maybe larger but the percentage would be in the single digits.

I am with Stateline. I have seen no real evidence that test scores for SA are up in GA this year, except reading it on the Hive.

I have heard from multiple sources that this is a deep year in GA and the state will produce more and better div 1a talent than usual.

uh...that is what happen. He was told to do his job or he was done....and...well...we know what happened. Same with Tommy Robinson.
