WHY is recruiting SO MUCH better this year...?

What I like about this class isn't the star ranks, it's that we're beating UGA, Auburn, FSU, and UF out on recruits. I trust the player evaluations of our regional football factories more than I do the recruiting services, and nearly all our signees this year had offers from multiple factories in the area.

Excellent point! I agree.

How do you know recruiting is so much better? When we were signing classes with 80% of the players 2 star players, someone would come on here and say, "Stars don't matter. Remember Keith. Remember Hobie. We will not know for 2 - 3 years how good they are. Stars are just an indication of how many subscriptions the alnmni buy." My how the worm has turned. now that we are signing (I hope) 4 star athletes, the recruiting sites suddenly know what they are doing. Either that or we are buying a hell of a lot of subscriptions.
Out of the few 4-5 stars we have, every one except for Rashaun Grant has been a major contributer. Calvin, DRich, KScott have all done very well pretty early in their careers. There's some exceptions, such as Hobie, but usually having 10 4-5 stars will almost always get you better success than 10 2-3 stars.

However, past the cream of the crop, the recruiting services future-telling becomes much less reliable. I don't think anyone can really know for sure that the 60th ranked linebacker will have a better career than the 70th ranked linebacker.

But if someone demands perfection in others, they better walk the walk.

Everyone else gets a pass.

Someone who demands perfection in others is known as a LEADER!!!!

No ramblinwise1, demanding perfection of others is not what makes a person a leader. Anybody can demand perfection of others.

A person who can inspire people to give their best (and I am not suggesting how that inspiration happens) and work to be perfect is a leader.

I had the pleasure of working for a person like that once. He demanded that his employees work their tails off but never let anyone work harder than he did. Whenever he asked us to sacrifice or work harder we did because we knew he wasn't asking anything of us that he wasn't willing to exceed himself. He went on to be a crew chief for someone who won multiple NASCAR Cup championships.

He is a leader.

There are other ways of inspiring perfection in others but sitting back and demanding that they do it is not a way to be a leader.

How do you know recruiting is so much better? Every year that we recruit a class with 80% two star players, someone says "Stars don't matter. Remember Keith. Remember Hobie. Stars are just an indication of how many subscriptions the alumni buy." Well, we must be buying a hell of a lot of subscriptions now.

I think the true answer lies in a little from column A, a little from column B.

It is indeed possible to find two star or one star players who will start. (Reis) It is more likely that a three or four star player will start. It is unlikely that a flat out superstar (Calvin) will have one or two stars, but it's within the realm of possibility (Kelly Campbell).

Previous classes were made up of 30% or 40% players who could start for us. This class looks to be nearly 100% players who could start for us. That makes this class better.

You were kicked off the Hive? :wow: :o
Yessir. I speculate it was for, umm, setting a poor example to others.

Actually, it was because I posted that I was the guy who hit that ND ref with the bottle, after which time some hivers were like 'hell yeah I owe you a beer' and others were like 'you suck you're a terrible fan' (which may be true, I'm still struggling with that) and yet more were like 'you stole our BOTD thongs you maggot liberal' to which I replied 'I didn't steal your thongs, Ramblinwreck did,' which got the thread deleted and me banned. But it's cool. I like it better here anyway. Less traffic, and a higher mean intelligence level, means better discussion. And there's great thongs here. I do miss the haiku threads, though.

Beej & The Hive

Think of the scene in Monty Python's Life of Brian involving stoning and saying "Jehovah."

From what I could tell, BJ just said his name a lot.
