Why our coaching is awful- an example

sheesh…. This @PressManCoverage guy is cooking the hell out of you guys

That punt sequence is so trivial in what went on in the actual game.

For the guy who said we didn’t rollout. That’s not true either. We got sacked on what was going to be TD to Gibbs

The other time, the TE inexcusably runs back toward the qb bringing the extra defender instead of going upfield for an easy dump off

That is a facepalm. Ouch.

Every season has almost wins and almost losses. UGAg in 97, NC State in 2005. We are close, but need to turn the corner. We need to shore up the DL and OL badly. We need better play/more mature TE's. There are a lot of areas for improvement.

If you want to nuke the staff and HC now and nuke the program, push for it. It will be a win/win for you because if we do that after this season, I'm out.
I just always find it interesting that you only post about close wins/losses from a specific timeframe and never reference anything from CPJ’s time here.
Except for the ones who have posted that they wanted Monken, you are 100% correct.
I think people need to learn the difference between being OK with someone being hired and eliminating the person as a potential hire. But to be clear I would’ve loved Monken getting hired after CPJ. I would still like him to be hired as our coach. I would like lots of people getting hired here as coach. I liked Geoff Collins getting hired here as coach.

Dumbass, I have posted several "on this date" threads SPECIFICALLY referencing CPJ coached wins, dumbass. ööööing damn liar

So I was correct.

Wow. It really does seem as though we’ve been 1-2 plays away from winning most of our games. Can’t remember many seasons where we can point to 1-2 examples where the play call is perfect, the TD is there, the game is won, but we shoot ourselves in the foot. How many chunk plays have come back because penalties too? We are RIGHT THERE but have nothing to show for it. This is promising, but frustrating. Suggests if the team can put it all together and just limit a few mistakes then they’ll be pretty good. Let’s hope that happens against ND or UGA and we surprise someone.

It’s a lot

I still have hope we can beat UGAg. We will need our OL to play the game of their lives and need Sims to be sharp and for our receivers to catch the ball.

I don't worry about our RB's, if the blocking is there, any of the 4 (including Griffin) are good enough to break plays

We need to make UGAg make mistakes. Forced and unforced errors. We need a plays to break our way.

They will be the most talented football team, including gagger teams, we have played in years........ defensively. I don't think so offensively. Their defense has the ability to get quick 3 and outs from opponents giving their offense multiple opportunities to score and giving them a lot of short field opportunities.

We really need for Tennessee to beat them up pretty good. Their following game is a patsy.

Their offense seems to get a lot of big plays in the passing game. If we can deny them that we can keep it close, I think. Who knows what will happen in a close game?

Almost beat them in 83, when we had no business being on the same field with them. Did beat them in 84-85. We got this.

This has been my biggest disappointment with CGC. He came in known as a defensive specialist, but his defenses have been close to abysmal (in terms of defensive FEI):

2019: 93
2020: 88
2021: 94 (*Through 8 games)

To his credit, he's increased the talent on our roster. You can say that increase in talent has been wasted with no appreciable improvement in performance. In fact, at this rate, with the 5th most talented roster in the ACC according to 247 recruiting service, we are on track to have the worst DFEI in CGC's 3 years at GT.

How bad has our defense been? The worst season we had since the Bill Lewis was the HC is CPJ's 2015 2-9 season. That year our DFEI was 48. That was under Ted Roof. Remember Roof? GT fans' favorite punching bag until he left for Appalachian State. Roof actually had multiple DFEI seasons in the 40's and 50's. Ted Roof also had less talent to work with.

IMO, if you have a calling card, but you're no longer good at what your calling card is, then we have a problem. This is like if CPJ came in and our rushing offense was horrendous.

When we beat UNC early this season, and we put on one of the most dominant defensive performances GT has had in a long time, I thought we may have turned the corner. Maybe it finally clicked for our guys and we would get similar results going forward. Unfortunately, it's looking more and more like fool's gold. As each week passes, my confidence that CGC will be able to turn the ship in the right direction erodes.

2-9 in 2015? Did the NCAA take away a win?

Well Coached Teams just so happen to be super talented Teams, when you are a high talent Player you don't need to "cheat & gamble" to make plays, you can play within whatever system and " let the Game come to you"

Do you honestly think that we Coach our Center to snap the ball low for at least 2 straight seasons, throwing off the timing on damn near every play?

Coaching is no more than 15 to 20% of it, once a Player is taught correctly in practice, IT IS UP TO THE PLAYER TO EXECUTE UNDER GAME PRESSURE!

We just don't have enough Talented Depth to yank poor, undisciplined performers, so they stay in the Game, and they keep effin' up, and you keep on with your rants about, "it's the coaching".

I hate to tell people that they are wrong, no wiggle room, no discussion, hard stop, but that's what most of y'all are, wrong, hard stop.

So if we all agree that Today's GT team is more talented than when CPJ was here (2018), how was CPJ able to win 7 games in his final season?

and that's without the gimme wins like Duke and NIU on the schedule.

Which occurs MOST FREQUENTLY?

You the Coach not teaching something properly?

OR....

You the Coach teaching something properly and then the Player(s) get in Game situations and "spit the bit", absolutely choke and eff it up under Game pressure?

Be honest, you know damn well the latter happens about 5 times as much as the former.

Yet you'd rather come here and be deceptive just to "win the debate"

You know damn well at the College Level there is a great likelihood that the Coaches Teach the proper Technique, so your anecdotal HS stories probably don't apply at a P5 School.

Brent Key didn't just get stoopid after he started Coaching at GT, he had a different depth chart of OLs to coach, different Players!!
Key is a huge flop. The line has gotten worse every year. Give him bama talent and the bama talent can succeed in spite of him. Otherwise he flops. He's a great negative recruiter and used such tactics against GT while at UCF. But that is his best ability. He has been a spectacular failure.

It doesn't count in the Stats, I agree to that

Where it counts in this instance is in minds & psyche of his Teammates & Coaching Staff, they all knew he had a bad Game.

Seeing a player have a bad Game and then immediately flush it, and perform with icewater in his veins earns Sims a lot of credibility with his Team & Coaches, even if the play is nullified due to penalty, the Team trusts him a lot more than they did before, they know they have a gamer at QB.

Lots of guys can put up stats, not all have the clutch gene.

Before I go, what did you think seeing Sims come out and hit that big pass play after the low snap, did you think we were going to score, did you think he picked the right time to get his act together?

That's called the clutch gene!

Once upon a time if we were in the same situation, we'd throw 4 jump ball passes and then go quietly into the night, but with Sims & PNode, no matter how many cheap shots you take at them, you know we have a puncher's chance.
If by puncher's chance you are referring to a boxer that is getting his ass handed to him for 15 rounds, has been knocked down multiple times, but is still standing on his feet as he gets pummeled.....then yes....he still technically has a punchers chance to land a lucky blow for a KO. Actually, this hypothetical analogy isn't applicable and won't be of help the next two weeks.

But Sims does give Tech a shot at winning a close game against another awful team. I just wouldn't bet on it with Pnode calling plays in the red zone.

For you and everyone else that responded similarly, the comment on Saban was simply that the example provided probably did not impact the game that much. Coaches calling a game are not perfect. Players on both sides are not perfect. If and when they will be, then the games will forever be on Madden.
The Miami game was well played on both sides. The game came down to a few key mistakes or bad call against us. We were not lucky.
But the boys played well and with great spirit. I support them and expect to see better things next year.
Played well by both teams.....both teams are pretty bad. So by standards judging the play of bad teams....maybe they both played decent. But plus two in the turnover margin can be considered a bit lucky. What did Tech manage with those breaks? A fumble return for a touchdown for one. Great play or the game wouldn't have been so close. Luck is relative in the eyes of opposing fans.

Their offense seems to get a lot of big plays in the passing game. If we can deny them that we can keep it close, I think. Who knows what will happen in a close game?

We are one of the worst teams in the country at giving up the big pass plays and on third down defense.
