Wisconsin fires Paul Chryst

Plenty of attractive women there
But in Wisconsin, aren't they bundled up in 20 layers of clothing most of the year? What was it Grizzard said about Chicago - it has two seasons, winter and the Fourth of July?
It's not like going to Florida or FSU where they're leaving little to the imagination just about 24/7.
So I've been told.

They've got a near exact win percentage all-time as Tech at 59%. Paul Chryst won 72% of his games and 7-1 in bowl games (2-1 in BCS/CFP level bowls).

Their standards are ööööing stupid.

Their $$$ isn't stupid though. They're right to be angry. For being a top-25 $$$ program, they ööööing suck. Chryst's best days are behind him. This will be 3 ööööty seasons in a row in Madison.

Because it is in Wisconsin. How the hell do you recruit any skill position players to Madison?

Madison is a cool city, and as someone who lives north of Madison in colder weather, it's a pleasant city for outside activities the majority of the year, late fall to early spring (Nov through March). Their game this weekend was 68-71 degrees. Being on an isthmus between the two lakes makes for lots of pretty lake front views. They have a great bar scene and its a big state school that is easily driving distance to the Twin Cities, Milwaukee, and Chicago.

As far as Wisconsin recruiting, they have talent nearby, especially on the lines (i.e. the Watt brothers). For skill positions, based on their lines, they almost guarantee a RB 1000 yard seasons and good draft position. Their QB's completion percentage is often in the 50s. For the last 20 or so years, they've played to their strength. Which is Big 10, run first football. Unfortunately for them, it's hard to out Big 10 Ohio State and Michigan. Then you get Kirk Ferentz as a bit of a wild card that pulls out top 5 seasons every few years, just enough to keep Wisconsin from getting over the hill. Their biggest rival in the region is just now coming out of a decades long stint of bad to mediocre football and can start stealing talent.

While the upper midwest isn't a hotbed of talent, its also only got a few state schools to divide that talent up. One could make the argument that the upper midwest is actually under recruited based on players like Adam Thielen and Trey Lance.

This article says everything about why Tech will not be able to succeed without completely rethinking the relationship beteeen the Hill and the AA. Note where Chryst’s buyout is coming from.

How many other schools have the separate fund raising that we have?

I have no idea. I don’t know enough about how we are set up or why. I stopped to talk to an older neighbor Tech fan and revel in the win, and we got started on this topic. He said something about “Dodd set it up that way so that he got left alone by the academics.” I have no idea if this is true or not, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it is.

Seems like a good time for Cabrera to merge them.

UW's fundraising is not really different from GT with the exception that the A-T Fund is perceived to be autonomous, which it isn't. The folks at the A-T Fund report to the Office of Development, just like those raising funds like Roll Call for the GT Foundation. UW has the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics under the UW Foundation, which is similar.

The Bylaws of the GT Foundation include the description of their Development Committee, which reads as follows (bold portions for emphasis):

Section 7. Development Committee. The Development Committee is charged with the responsibility of working with GIT, the Office of Development and other fund-raising entities, including the Athletic Association, Alumni Association, the various schools and colleges, and President’s office, to develop and coordinate fund-raising activities, programs and campaigns, including any funding thereof by the Foundation.

So the Development Committee can move funds to the AA if they choose? We need to join the Big 10 and solve our funding issues.

It is amazing that Swofford was able to leave such a lasting legacy of incompetence like how he left the ACC. When Miami joined, the ACC was supposed to rival the SEC for supremacy in CFB with the additions.

The ACC front office was nothing but a bunch of Carolina fanbois who, as long as Duke and UNC were happy, they were happy. Bunch of öööö ups.

If we had had competent ACC leadership, nobody would be desiring to move to the BIG10, including Maryland. There should be an ESPN 60 documentary on the ACC front office öööö up.

The ACC leadership is responsible for FSU and Miami falling apart in the mid 2000s? The ACC leadership is responsible for giant state schools being more appealing to audiences than Wake, Duke, and BC?

Interesting hypothesis.
