Until we break the streak..

Even after we break the streak...

Eleven preseason games, one that matters...

This isn't just some game on the schedule, this is a RIVALRY people. You're damn right you're supposed to be obsessed over it, because it matters more than any other game we could play on the schedule. Even if we somehow win the game that saves the Earth from being colonized by parasitic space baboons, it would still get under my skin if those u[sic]ga retards could say "But WE still beat you this year."

The day we drop the series, or move the game earlier in the year, I will lose all faith in the AA, and possibly the fanbase.

It depends on UGA's season. If they're undefeated #1 and playing to go to the championship, I say beating UGA is sweeter especially because it will wreck their whole season. Otherwise I take 8-0.

Besides what would they say?

Based on your thinking that they are undefeated at that point in the season a non-conference loss really won't affect them in their run at a national title. They would still be playing for the SEC championship and based on recent history the winner of that game goes on to play for the BCS Title.

On that note, if beating the nad lickers isn't the most important game to everyone then you are an idiot and should be sprayed down with a fire hose...This is our biggest rival and it pains me greatly to hear people accept us losing that game year in and year out.

No, YOU guys just don't get it......

or at least some of you.

I never said the UGA game was not important. In fact, I said in my post that I understand all the good reasons (recruiting, etc) why we need to beat them. However, IMHO, those benefits would better accrue to us with sustained success (defined as beating enough teams to win a conference championship) rather than merely beating one team that (as we all know) would be immediately dismissed by all their fans and all the media as a fluke anyway.

Sure, in a vacuum, if I could pick ANY team on our schedule I'd rather beat it would be the nadlickers. But that was not the question.

i guess 3 out of 8 times is a pretty good average, and 3 out of the last 5 is even better, but remember how upset they have been when the SEC Champ doesnt go to the BCS Champ game, and they have been good teams

2000 - Florida wins SEC; Oklahoma & FSU go
2001 - LUS wins SEC; Miami & Nebraska go
2002 - Georgia wins SEC; Ohio St & Miami go
2003 - LSU wins SEC; LSU & Oklahoma go
2004 - Auburns wins SEC; USC & Oklahoma go
2005 - Georgia wins SEC; Texas & USC go
2006 - Florida wins SEC; Florida & Ohio St go
2007 - LSU wins SEC; LSU & Ohio St go

It would be unconscionable for them to win 8 in a row. Beat the mutts. Without a doubt. I'm 4400 miles from Athens. I still want to beat the mutts.

I will still enjoy their frozen inbred bulldog tears from here.

Without beating Georgie, there is no gravity in the Tech football universe.

Guys, what the hell is in our fight song? THWG!!!

Beating Georgia is all I hope each and every day. Hell, in 2006, I thought I was disappointed even before the ACCCG, because we lost to GA. The ACCCG was not and is not important to me. Until the record stands where we have about 20 more wins than they have on us, (so I guess that will take about 40 years--can we sign CPJ to a 40 year deal??), and they are as inconsequential as beating Valdosta State would be, then I might change my mind. But right now, the ONLY game I sincerely pray we win every year is the game after Thanksgiving.

Great, but they would be a one loss team undefeated in their conference which was more my point.

2000- Florida (2 losses)
2001- LSU (3 losses)
2002- UGAg (1 loss, other 2 were both undefeated)
2004-your only legitimate argument
2005- UGAg (2 losses)

thanks for playing...

why so adversarial, i didnt contradict anything you said. i agree, if they lose to us and then win the SEC Championship game, and the loss to us is the one loss they have, they will likely go the Championship game unless there are two undefeated teams.

given their schedule, if they end up with 1 loss, they will likely be the highest rated 1-loss team out there.

the "thanks for playing" comment is unnecessary and reveals the insecure side of you...

Keep fighting the good fight, getwrecked.

or at least some of you.

I am 110% in your camp, and I know how outmanned we are and that they've got us surrounded.

ACC First for this Jacket! I have just never cared enough about UGA to give them the power over me. I got a better education, and I love and support teams comprised of real student-athletes, coached by coaches who try every day to do things the right way. Many more of our ACC brethren fit that mold than Georgia or any SEC team (save Vandy) ever could.

UGA sucks. I hope they lose every game. Beyond that, I am much more interested in GT being successful than UGA failing. Period.

4-4 in the ACC and three wins (2 against 1-AA and Miss St), then your right I want the 8-4 with a win against the team from Athens. Ga.

But I'm greedy... and want 12-0

Judging by the responses, I can see that most people would have LOVED Chan Gailey had he beaten UGA.

A 4-4 ACC record, completely mediocre program, but we beat UGA! Hurray! :D

And your point is?

BTW, if you do not think the same is true at our hated rival...just ask Jim Donnan. He had a record of 40-19, but could not beat us...and he got canned.

I want Marc Richt, and his replacement, and his replacement, and his replacement (infinity symbol) fired for the same damn reason that Jim Donnan was fired.

BTW, I wonder if the people who would rather win the ACC are out-of-state Tech fans, and the ones who would rather beat Georgia (like myself) are born/bred in-state.

Growing up all my life listening to that insane annoying woof from those in-bred rednecks...nothing gives me more pleasure than shutting that up.

If we had beaten U[sic]GA two years ago under Chan, we could very well have been ACC champs and playing in the Orange Bowl with a 11-2 record. Even if we didn't beat Wake Forest with the momentum gained from that win, we would have been 10-3 and playing in a better bowl than the Gator. Instead, we were 9-4 and playing in front of a half empty stadium. Of course, given the results of the previous two games, it wasn't too much of a surprise that we lost that one too, and finished the season at a cool 9-5. Don't underestimate the importance of U[sic]GA.

While one of the biggest knocks against Gailey was that he could not beat u[sic]ga, I had several other problems with him.

1. He was faaaar too conservative for my tastes, and cost us a few games by sitting on the lead, as opposed to going for the kill, or at least padding that lead (2006 Notre Dame good example of this)

2. We always seemed to be due for an absolute shellacking once a year. I'm sure you can think of at least one blowout loss during most, if not all of Chan's tenure here

3. Our teams never seemed to give off that aura of toughness. I would see it every once in a while (2007 climpsun/2006 vpi), but it would always dissappear.

My biggest issue with Gailey besides the losses to u[sic]ga was that I could never believe that we could rise to any kind of heights as long as he was coach. I just didn't think he could take us to the top, which was further evidenced by how we fell apart at the end of what should have been our best season since 1990.

I don't want this to degrade into a "I hate Gailey" thread, I just wanted to point out that there was more to the dissatisfaction with Gailey than the losses to u[sic]ga. Had Gailey beaten them over half his years here, I would tolerate him as our coach, but I certainly wouldn't love the man.

goalie, college coaching positions are tough. You have to both beat the rival and still be successful in overall record.

Most Tech fans (including me) would still be pissed if we were beating UGA but had a bad overall record year after year. Ideally we want 12-0, but realistically, what most want is beat UGA and be successful most of the time over a period of years. Having a losing record over 7 years or losing to UGA for 7 years are both grounds for sacking.

On the good side for the coaches, when they beat UGA, I am pretty sure 90% of the time, they will end up with good records and championships.
