Your honest opinion/ regarding recruiting

Would we be any better off if we were not running the TO, or would we be less competitive in a more traditional offense.
 
What kinda offense did Gailey run and how was his recruiting?
 
The only times GT has beaten UGA in my entire lifetime we have had the "triple option" play in our offense in some form or fashion, from under center.
 
Recruiting would be slightly worse than it is now......same as it was during CCG days....if you throw out the 2007 outlier year, he recruited mostly 3* and 2* players. Currently, we recruit far less 2* guys than CCG did.....that's why I say we are slightly better now.
 
Its our biggest disadvantage, above academic requirements, limited majors, having to study, limited attendance, not a party school, etc. Basically, there is just no reason for a 4 or 5 star offensive player to come here, except for maybe an athlete wanting to play QB.

It hurts on defense also, having to practice against it.

Gailey's recruiting was bad early, but was really picking up the end.
 
I don't see a big difference, honestly. GT seems to have a recruiting ceiling (or maybe a narrow recruiting groove) that seems to limit us for a variety of reasons. I don't think the offensive style hurts us too much as we get players uniquely suited to the style.

GT is what it is and until I see 3+ years of 10 wins in a row I'm not apt to change my mind. We will have decent success and pull off a few big wins and have a lot of drunk fun while doing it.

It got so bad during Gailey that I was calling which play we were going to run as we approached the LOS.
 
I see little difference and it is likely in the noise, but I like the shot that the 3O gives us at the Justin Thomas type QB's.

I don't see why a true football player (not student athlete) would play at Georgia Tech if they could play the same position in the same offense at Georgia, Auburn, Alabama, FSU, Clemson, South Carolina, Tennessee, or any other nearby football school that I'm missing.

Based on how the offense operated with Nesbitt and Washington (not perfect fits), I like the potential. We just needed enough defense, which I believe in the system now. Not sure what happened in 2015, but its tough for me to point to recruiting as anything other than an excuse to pile onto the heap.
 
We would recruit roughly the same, which is why I try not to get too high or low around NSD.
 
I think it would be better because the idea of a Georgia Tech education is such a big part of the recruiting process now than it was years ago. You can still have an option based attack that is more wide open and you can achieve that by signing better players to play in that type of system. There are plenty of players that GT won't even recruit because the players don't fit GT. For example, look how important the TE position played out in the FBS championship games. We sign TE's and turn them into tackles. For some reason CPJ places our receivers in the TE position in goal line and short yardage plays. Do you think that Brad Stewart can really block Shaq Lawson??
 
I am not taking a position one way or the other, I just wanted opinions of others. I do think this offense gives us the best chance to win against stronger teams.
 
Here's the 247sports.com composite, that is, they take Rivals, Scout, their own rankings, ESPN, and others and average them; beginning with Gailey's first class and showing the results so far this recruiting season. Nothing really striking here; quick averages (check my math, I'm a Dawg fan) are 45.5 for Gailey and 50.7 for Johnson, throwing out 2008 for which they both recruited, and this season which is incomplete. 2007 is a statistical outlier that helps Gailey's average needless to say.

It is utterly amazing to me that just about every poster assumes there are only two coaching possibilities for GT in the universe, Gailey or Johnson. Folks, there are choices out there that could do much, much better than either of these choices.

In all seriousness, there probably is a coach somewhere out there that would bring us greater success the CPJ. Identifying that coach (which we'd likely have to do before the majority of the rest of FBS could swoop in) is the difficult part. And I'd wager that for every 1 promising up and coming coach that succeeds, there are 5 that don't (just look back at the other GT candidates back when CPJ was hired). Should we cut CPJ to take a long shot gamble on another coach? Maybe. If we have another 2015-like season this year, then probably. Personally though, I've enjoyed the success that we've had under CPJ (enough so far to make up for the less than stellar years). And while I'd love for an improvement in recruiting, I'm not going to stress about something that seems a lot more Georgia Tech oriented than the coach or that wacky offense he runs.
