Confirmed: ND to make a deal with ACC. 5 FB games/year, full member in others

The downside for me is that there will be a time where I will need to root for ND to win. The last time I did that was in 1990 and I was in complete misery until the UPI Coaches Poll saved the day. That day and January 1981 are the only times I was unhappy to see ND lose.

Fortunately for me, I only have real memory of three games against Notre Dame, two of which we won in blowout fashion. The 2006 game was very difficult to swallow, but 2007 made it easier to forget.

So I don't like Notre Dame but I don't have any fierce hatred for them. Though depending on how our games go with them when their ACC games start, I know that may change.

Seriously????? You think this is a good thing?

The only team benefitting from this is Notre Dame. They get to play basketball and all other sports.....NONE of which really increases the ACC's prestige. Notre Dame basketball, baseball, etc isn't going to help us that much. As far as ND football is concerned, they got their wish. They get a tie-in to the ACC's bowl structure but aren't required to play an ACC schedule. instead, they "grace us" by playing 5 games per year.

This is akin to the prom queen telling you that you can tell other people that you're getting married. You're going to pay for all her expenses for her to live with you but she's going to keep screwing other guys whenever and where ever she wants to do so. Oh and you don't get laid...you just get to see her naked every now and than. But, being the sad little disgusting nerd, you run off happy about the deal thinking you are the luckiest man alive because "one day, she'll see how great I am and want to let me consummate the marriage".

Sad, sad, sad day to be in the ACC in my opinion.
Don't take this wrong, but that was one of the worst posts I've ever read.

Let me guess. This happened to you but it wasn't the prom queen was it?

Swofford is not held in high regard on this board for a reason.

So, given the contempt that GT fans have for Swofford, are there legit reasons
why we should be concerned about this new part-time ND membership?

Did the ACC just bend over for ND ?

The ACC-CG in Tampa? (yeh yeh...F$U and Da U)

The structure of the current divisions?

UNC becoming a giant fraud ?

The only thing I agree with here is the football side....ND is just using the ACC like they did the Big East to get their other sports into a competitive playing field....in no way do they want to join the ACC in football....it's just not going to happen...

It is good for the ACC....but only while it lasts

Can someone please give a valid reason they'll ever join? We along with the playoff rules allow them to stay special and keep their independence. They just got all the benefits of the ACC and the ACC gets a couple million more per school meanwhile schools like Tech just got pushed down to the Third best ACC bowl unless we win the conference. Other than a couple million, what is the benefit to GT? We could win 11 regular season games and end up in the Russell athletic bowl. If the coastal team that beats us goes 9-0 in conference and we beat Georgia and 2 other OOC games, how pumped are our guys going to be to play the 5th best team from whatever confrence we'll face....then the bowl losing streak will continue. It's like Texas Tech in the cotton bowl and oklahoma in the national championship ala 2008

Except they never agreed to play 5 Big East teams a year in football and the college football landscape is rapidly changing. This is not just about other sports.

I think you're getting carried away with the hyperbole there.

Analogy blows. Each ACC team will be get more money from the renegotiated TV deal, and if we get even one quality bowl out of this, we'll be sitting pretty. The conference gets the national attention that they bring, and we get a very intriguing non-conference opponent outside of UGA every 3 years.

If they're on the hook for the full buyout, then it's a way for us to make 50 million from them when they join the b1g. So that's something.

This means stability if nothing else, and it's being way undervalued by 95% of this board.

none of the other conferences would let them do this to them.

Yeah, I mean it's not as if there's a conference that allowed one school to start up its own network for which none of the other members receive the profits from...

Yes we make some good money...I will accept that as long as everyone accepts the fact ND will not be joining ACC football.

It'll be nice to get out own "champions bowl" out of this maybe with the pac 12 or b1g due to the nd relationship with USC and the b1g schools
