Ted Roof Returning To Georgia Tech As Defensive Coordinator
Pending background check, Roof will return to his alma mater after coaching Penn State's defense

wtf, is this 'the PSU rule'?

This past season, Roof served as defensive coordinator under another former Georgia Tech assistant coach, Bill O'Brien. The Nittany Lions exceeded all expectations by posting an 8-4 record. Roof's defense ranked second in the Big Ten Conference in scoring defense (19.1 ppg), first in sacks (34), first in red-zone defense and third in turnover margin.

Nationally, Penn State ranked tied for first in red-zone defense, 15th in sacks, 16th in scoring defense, 23rd in rushing defense, 28th in pass efficiency defense and 29th in total defense.

He did well at Penn State last year.

Isn't he supposed to be a stud recruiter?

My man. Ted Roof. Somewhere BOR is melting like the wicked witch of the West. This is the best thing to happen to Georgia Tech football since Joe Hamilton.

Go Jackets!

I honestly don't know a ton about his coaching career other than what I've seen on here (wasn't following football back when he coached here), but reading the article, there are certainly some nice stats. Of course I'd like to see/hear some more of the other side of the coin.

You know how the '12 D was compared to the '99 D in terms of who sucked worse.

Well, guess who the defensive coordinator was during that öööö storm of a season back then?

How's that? Roof wasn't someone I wanted, but he's better than what we had.

Maybe he meant you got your wish as in this will be the demise of the coach you despise?:dunno:

Man I hope I'm wrong.

Not that his defenses at Tech were great, but they were better than the dumpster fires of the last 5 years. They'll learn to tackle better.

And he's had a great deal of success in the 14 years since he left Tech. I seriously don't understand the negativity about this.

Statistically he seems to be feast or famine through his career.

Penn State got Sanduskied this year and he even held Wisconsin in check all the way through overtime. Hopefully his good numbers can continue here.

ok, dude, put those 30-yr old gold shades away

As a DC maybe, but certainly not as a head coach. But it was Duke.

And the Auburn fans are howling.

Don't be confused as to Ted Roof the DC and Ted Roof the DC under O'Leary. I've been told by quite a few people with ties to the program that Roof wanted to run a more aggressive defense but O'Leary dictated that we run zone coverages in the secondary and force teams to march the ball down the field.

I, for one, like this hire a lot.

I don't despise Johnson. I think he's pretty good in his role as OC.
