Lawson

This is a very depressing way to look at things, but its tought to argue. Each of the last 3 seasons I'm convinced we were 1/2 quality defensive linemen away from being 9-11 win teams all three years. Our offense has put up huge numbers since CPJ came (easily number 1 in the ACC in total offense and PPG if you average all 5 years).

The horrid '08, '10, and '11 DL classes are (IMHO) the reason CPJ isn't a 50 game winner over his first 5 seasons. We've had some alarmingly bad DLs since the '08 foursome.

How much of a difference did Derrick Morgan make?

I don't think it's depressing--think of it this way: we're a player or two away. As opposed to teams that have plenty of talent, and just can't win.

Game winning tackle for the ACC as Clemson is burning down the field to the end zone?

dunnolol

Sent from my DeLorean using the Flux Capacitor

and wake forest game, and a lot more...

Had a huge game against clemson the first time too, also beating VT he had a big sack and blew up the fourth and 1 run they tried to convert. Blocked the game-tying field goal against GW in 08.

Against Wake was it his sack that knocked them out of FG range?

Guy was a game-changer

yeah he sacked Skinner when CPJ decided to go for it on 4th and give them good field position

Too bad cuz he's Allbarn all the way.

Considering the head coach and DL coach he committed to are now gone, I wouldn't be so sure. Considering the DL coach, which he has a very strong relationship with is at GT plus the fact CTR was a big hit with him, I'd say we're in it big time.

If Roof/Pelton are able to land this guy it'll be epic. Not only for the football team, because #2 player in the country öööös on the phrase "stars don't matter," but it also represents a cultural change. It means that we, whether CPJ likes it or not, are finally playing the recruiting game. This game has been mastered by retards like Richt; singing happy birthday comes to mind. If CPJ did that I'd be scared, but now he's hired people who will do that crap for him.

How has CBG gotten his best recruits? Got Pierre Jordan to transfer from FSU whose dad coaches Robert Carter and then guess who no longer wants to go to FSU. Solomon Poole wants to make a name for himself, take over a team, not really considering GT. We grab his brother from KY and all of a sudden he's here and enrolled early. It's about making these kids (this talent level) feel comfortable that you're going to take care of them and prepare them to play professionally. Bama football recruits always talk about what a family atmosphere it is down there. How is it they get players to ride the bench for 3 years hoping that they get to play as a senior and get picked up in the draft when they could come to GT, play for 2 years, and be a first round pick? We don't/didn't play the game...

You're not suggesting CPJ hired Roof and Pelton with the idea that these two guys would cause Lawson to sign with GT? :bowrofl:

Culture shift??? Seriously??? The only reason Lawson visited GT is because the planets aligned correctly. a) His school of choice gutted their coaching staff. b) his dad is a GT former player and c) the former DL coach he built a relationship with is now the new DL coach at GT. (But then again that evil genius, mastermind CPJ just hired him to get to Lawson.)

I'm only saying we've hired people that will play the game. I don't care if CPJ did it intentionally or not, I don't know him and probably never will. Do u disagree that Roof and Pelton would do anything to get Lawson? When did I ever call CPJ a mastermind? Now Roof might have gotten Pelton hired to try to get Lawson. I believe he had a lot to do with that hire as the DC. Either way, last year we were hoping for 3 star Soccer Player extraordinaire Dalvin Tomlinson to come save our defense, this year we have a 5 star #2 player in the country that might be actually considering us... no culture change in recruiting at all.

Gailey was the best closer I have ever seen.

Why did Gailey seem to consistently underperform on the field....with his recruiting results?

Was it Gailey or Giff Smith that was really responsible for the recruiting results?

He sealed the deal with a lot of truly undecided kids by going into their homes at the end and finishing the sales job an assistant had done.

He had too much pride and was too stubborn, which led to many of the on-field problems, but the man knows football and he knew the art of the deal.
