Corn Elder

I believe they could play as a preferred walk-on, but then you're talking about not being on a football scholarship. I would probably want the team to commit to a football scholarship, if it were me.

Knowing how hard it is to be a National Merit Finalist and seeing someone who achieved that, it's almost incomprehensible to me that someone would be able to get a high D1 offer and be a National Merit Finalist. If it happened, that person would be truely exceptional.

Interesting comment, which, coincidentally, has always been a general interest of mine .... the only football players that came to mind who were both D-1 (non Ivy League or service academy related) recruits and also National Merit Scholars were Myron Rolle at FSU who also was also a Rhodes Scholar, Robert Smith at Ohio State, Tim Green at Syracuse, Jeff Hostetler and Oliver Luck (Andrew's dad) at WVU, Pat Haden at USC(w), Alan Page at Notre Dame and Alex Smith at Utah.

Your point is certainly well made.....

Corn just committed to Miami for football. Oh well.

WTF?!?! We can all blame George Mason for this...

Reasoning:

-George Mason AD is a pompous ass who refuses to recognize that Coach L built the program and ancillary success of Mason athletics and in part academics.
-George Mason AD refuses to upgrade bball facilities for Coach L
-George Mason AD refuses to pay Larranaga and his assistants close to as much as VCU pays Shaka Smart and his assistants
-Coach L leaves Mason for Miami
-Miami has a lot of departing seniors, and therefore future opportunities in basketball
-Coach L leads Miami to historic season.
-Corn wants to play both sports and likes basketball, and loves Miami (no doubt he saw Lebron James and DWade in attendance at the UNC game...)
-To add insult to injury, Mason AD hires Paul Hewitt.

Miami football still surviving on their reputation from decades past. In another decade far fewer will be able to say "they were my favorite team growing up".

I still think despite what Elder said, us recruiting that PG may have been a major factor.

I agree. We had no space for him after that.

Also, I dont think it'll take another decade for Miami's fanbase to erode. Can't wait for the NCAA to get their crap together and hammer them and UNC like they deserve.
