Anti-Gold Standard - Maintain the fight song in its original form

This is not about hating women. This is about them f'ing with 107 years of tradition for the pettiest of reasons. Get your minds rite.

I agree, although it's really easy to hate women too.

Look I'd understand if the fight song was if i had a daughter sir i'd take her to the campus to marry a Tech guy and cook and clean for him. This right here is really petty. The brave and bold can be anyone competing for Tech and the last I remember we have women's team sports too. To say that 'to cheer the brave and bold' is a bunch of men that the women have to cheer for is sexist itself. We can nitpick every lyric in the song and keep accusing each other, in the end it comes down to a bullshit petition enacted by people who don't go to any sporting events, have probably never sung the song and who are creating butthurt to further their own goals.

Why do we even have daughters or sons in the song? What if we had sons who want to be daughters and vice versa? Why don't we acknowledge our transgender fans too?

In the end they wanted to change one word from cheer to join. About a quadrillion words have been written by 750,000 injured butts in response. That is the funniest part to me.

Give them an inch and they'll take a mile. It's one word today, the entire song tomorrow.

You've learned well from the confederate flag supporters.

So does the alma mater come under fire next?

"Oh sons of Tech" seems pretty exclusive.

What if I identify more with those that were put on campus to cheer the brave and bold than those who yell THWG?

Jesus Christ. Does saying you want someone to "cheer the brave and bold" imply that said person is not, in fact, a person?

Maybe we need to look at this differently. We could have a rap-style hype man type song that is spoken in the background of the fight song. Its sole purpose will be to recognize all types of people and acknowledge that we are all equal.

You've learned well from the confederate flag supporters.

Difference between RWFGT and Confederate Flag is that the RWFGT was never used to subjugate women like the Flag was used to subjugate African Americans.

I'm trying to interpret the line from the point of view of these people, genuinely trying, and I can not figure out what there is to be offended by or how it's demeaning.

Now you know how hard it is to be offended by everything. Takes some real mental gymnastics. I feel like it should be a sport.

You need to leave out the following lines about the son, and consider "the brave and bold" to be the GT student body, not whatever sports team is playing.

From that perspective, what they're saying makes sense. I mean, it would still be nitpicking to be offended by it given when it was written, but it would make a lot of sense to change it.

Of course, that perspective is not reality, but it is what it is. They make it reality by structuring their petition like that and distributing it to people who don't know the song.

So in order for their contention to make sense we have to ignore the fact that this is a fight song about cheering on our student athletes.

...

In order for these people to be right, it cannot be what it is.

That is what we've come to.
