Kirby Smart to dwagland

They will basically suck next year, show improvement next year, lose a major player to injury the next year and finish 9-3. History will repeat itself.

Your avatar reminds me of ArchiTECH.

I miss him.

FootballScoop is saying that Smart will not retain Pruitt (who may then be headed to Alabama) and instead hopes to install Muschamp as defensive coordinator. Maybe someone has already said that in this thread but upon reading that my orgasm was so powerful that I've gone blind. Can this possibly be true?

Smart + Muschamp would be a great combination reputation-wise for recruiting defensive players. I'm not sure that's something we want. Does either have experience defending the 3O, though?

Muschamp is an upgrade over Pruitt in my opinion. But Pruitt already had the defense playing great so not much room for improvement. Hopefully he goes all Florida in Athens. Instability. Failure. New coach. That's what I'm hoping for. If we, GT, don't take this opportunity to focus on beating UGA (not once every half decade, but 3,4,5 years in a row) then we are Vanderbilt in Russel uniforms

@PaulMyerberg
I would've hired Tom Herman, but who wants to see an explosive offense combined with Georgia's recruiting base? That'd be crazy.

This was my biggest fear. Very pleased they went the route of a defensive coordinator.

I wonder just how good a DC Smart is. I mean, he has NFL caliber guys to coach every year, thanks to Saban. Of course, I had a coaching friend of mine ask me and another buddy one day, "You think it's easy to coach talent?" To which we replied, "uh, yeah."

(We were probably thinking it but never said it, that he didn't know the answer to the question ... since he had no talent to coach himself. And he's no longer coaching. Too bad, tho, I got along great with him.)

I hate to keep saying this but unless GT decides to change some things it won't matter who is the head coach at ugag. The last coach who had any type of sustained success against the mutts also had the reputation of arguing with the admissions people. What I have heard anyway. If all of the stuff in this article is true things will be more difficult for us. Muschamp and Smart may be buffoons but they know how to recruit and coach a defense. If they wise up and make a decent OC hire they may be very very good.

What we need now is for Smart to stop by Scottsboro High School on his way to Athens and grab their head coach for his offensive coordinator. The folks in Athens are already pretty fond of him, should be a home run hire.

Nothing stabilizes a coaching staff like a guy who is bat öööö crazy

It's gonna be hard for me to go along with derailing this thread in favor of another discussion on admissions. If we were getting our doors blown off every Thanksgiving, sure. But that isn't the case. This year the gasping remains of our decimated roster sucked a little bit more than Georgia. The two years before that we split overtime results with them.

There's a conversation to be had about academic constraints, but I'm not interested in doing it if the conversation begins by pretending that Georgia is blowing us out every year and it doesn't make a difference for us who their coach is.

Stop lying, you love to keep saying it. If you hated to say it, you just wouldn't.

For the 2015 NFL year, Alabama has 59 players on NFL rosters....UGA has 53. It's not like they don't get talent there at UGA.

Hopefully, Kirby listens to the mouth breather alumni and does things "the Georgia way" instead of emulating Saban's system. Otherwise, this could be a not-so-good thing at all for us.

Very true man, but winning 5 out of the last 20 games with different coaches on each sideline paints a very clear picture. The games like this year and 13 are the ones we need to start turning one here and one there to our side. Many of those games come down to a handful of plays. Having one or two plays bounce your way will happen more often when the gap isn't so wide. If we are happy about being "close" when we are 1-2 in the last three it still turns into a lopsided series. Just so we all agree, 1-2 against the mutts isn't the norm. That is actually an upswing if you look at the game over the last 20-30 years.
